Spiral Bible – The New Testament KJV Review

What type of Bible reader are you? Do you tend to treat your Bible as a fragile relic, barely touching it and shuddering at the thought of marking it up in any way? Or do you like to engage with God’s Word with pens and highlighters in hand, carefully exploring the text and documenting every treasured encounter for all of posterity to read?

If you’re like me, you like to take notes, highlight words and passages that catch your eye, even record an occasional prayer in the margins, but find it extremely difficult to do so. Even traditional Bibles with wide margins are often printed on paper that is too thin to hold the ink and highlighters we want to use without excessive bleed-through on the other side!

That’s why I was thrilled to discover The Spiral Bible – an entire line of Bibles (for adults and kids) that were designed specifically with note-taking in mind!

What do you need to know about the Spiral Bible to determine if it’s right for you?

  • The Spiral Bible is not a traditional Bible! It’s an 8.5 x 11 spiral-bound book that’s designed to open and lay flat (or easily fold over) for easy marking. The pages are printed on thick 50-pound paper with double-wide margins that are perfect for note-taking, journaling, drawing and highlighting.

  • Each Spiral Bible contains a portion of the Bible – not the entire Bible itself – in order to keep the size, weight and bulk of the books manageable. This is great if you are reading and studying specific portions of the Bible at a time – but requires multiple purchases to attain the entire collection. (Fortunately, they offer free shipping on all of their products and offer great sales if you join their mailing list!)

  • The Spiral Bible currently comes in two translations – the beloved King James Version and the American Standard Version (which is the basis of all modern translations). Although I was tempted to order the American Standard Version because I do not currently own a copy of that in my collection, I decided to start my collection with the pretty pink New Testament in the tried and trustworthy KJV translation.

  • If you like to express your individual style through pretty custom covers – the Spiral Bible will make your heart skip a beat with their wide selection of lovely covers to choose from! Of course, there are some stylish choices for men too, making the Spiral Bible the perfect choice for couples and families who want to study God’s Word together!

  • The font size in most of the adult Spiral Bible products is 10 point, which is more legible in this Bible than in many traditional Bibles because of the way the pages are typeset. The Spiral Bible for Kids is available in 15 point font and includes illustrations for coloring. The Spiral Bible also just released their first large print Bible – the KJV Large Print Gospels in 16 point font.

One unexpected benefit I discovered while reading The Spiral Bible is that the size of the Bible allowed me to see more of the text at once, which is particularly helpful when you are doing Inductive Bible Studies and are looking for themes and repeated words in the text.

Another thing to note – the Spiral Bible takes customer service very seriously! Because they want you to have the opportunity to experience and be satisfied with any product you purchase from them, they offer a 30-Day full refund or free exchange after purchase. They also guarantee that their spiral will not break or you will receive your money back.

If you are in the market for a great Bible to record your personal notes, prayers and insights in and you’re tired of writing on rice-thin paper, give the Spiral Bible a try! I love mine and have placed the entire Old Testament Collection (and the Gospels in large print) on my wish list!

I rate this Bible 5 out of 5 stars.

Oh this is a great idea ! All my Bibles are bulging and falling apart from notes etc stuffed in place !

    • Glad to know that I’m not the only one who stuffs my Bible with stuff! So many “placeholders” and markings in mine –
one of the reasons I always welcome the opportunity to start fresh! 🙂

  2. This is wonderful! I love the space for notes but also the large print and thicker pages. I don’t mind making multiple purchases, it’s definitely worth it.

  3. This is new to me, Thank you for sharing your post at Senior Salon Pit Stop. May you have an awesome Easter and hope to see you again in future at SSPS. This is an awesome idea, I will pin and share it with my family as well.

  4. Pam says:

Wow, this is a wonderful idea for a Bible! This is so practical and useful! I am definitely going to check this out!

    • So glad you caught the review Pam – would love to hear your thoughts when you check it out!

I just ordered the New Testament in the WEB modern translation, and I’m really excited to get it! (When I first went to the site, after your review, it was only available in KJV, which is beautiful, but a little more difficult for me to study from.) I’m planning to copy my messy sermon notes, that I keep in a separate little notebook, onto the journaling spaces in the Spiral Bible. I think that will be such a great way to study! Thanks for sharing about this, Ramona!

      • Hi Pam, thanks for letting us know you ordered a copy and especially that the NT is now available in the WEB translation!
I went out to the site and those covers are gorgeous! Had they been available at the time of my order, you can believe I’d have pretty butterflies dancing about my desk right now!

I love your plan and am excited that The Spiral Bible is continuing to grow and expand into new translations! 🙂

  5. Angie says:

Oh, I love this! Especially because I honestly feel guilty writing in my Bible, plus the pages are so thin! Thank you for sharing!

  6. Thanks for linking to SSPS 256. Hope to see you weekly.

This is a fantastic idea. I’m so glad you shared this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month.

You need to put a price and a way to order on each page. Otherwise people give up trying to find an order page and go somewhere else. Like I did

    • I’m sorry you did not see the link to the website but it is under Resources towards the bottom of the page.
I do not include prices because they change.
