Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson –Book Review

Today I am sharing a biography about one of the most controversial men on the planet: Elon Musk.

Elon first caught my attention a few years ago during that infamous Babylon Bee interview where he was asked about his faith and his beliefs. That interview led to my husband and I creating a fascinating Bible study for our small group where we discussed whether or not Elon Musk was a Christian, based on his responses and what the Bible tells us about salvation. And it is from that place – wanting to know more about the man behind the Babylon Bee interview – that my interest in this book was born.

Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson is written by the famed biographer who has also studied and chronicled the lives of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Ben Franklin, and Leonardo da Vinci.

In preparation for writing this 670 page book, Walter spent two years shadowing Elon Musk and it shows. The Elon Musk biography opens with stories from Elon’s tough childhood in South Africa and focuses on who Elon is a s a person. Sprinkled with photos throughout, the 95-chapter book covers everything from his many marriages to the development of Tesla and SpaceX to his acquisition of Twitter/X. The book officially covers events through April 2023 which means that none of the things that are currently impacting our lives – most notably, his role in DOGE – are addressed in this book.

Regardless of what you think about Elon Musk, Walter Isaacson has done a fine job of taking us behind the scenes and into the life of one of the most powerful and influential men on the planet.

  1. Sounds intriguing, but I don’t think I could make it through 95 chapters about him. The author did thorough research obviously.

    • Hi Aletha – it’s good to see you!
Yes 95 chapters is a bit much but the chapters are so detailed you can pick and choose the parts that interest you the most!
      Have a wonderful week!

The Babylon Bee is my favorite! They are so funny… it’s kind of weird to think about how a satire website had such a ripple effect! Thanks for sharing this review! I don’t agree with everything in Elon’s personal life, but God uses flawed people 😀

    • What a beautiful perspective, Becca! I struggled with this post because I don’t agree with everything that is happening right now but regardless, the book is a fascinating read for those who are interested! Have a beautiful day! 🙂
