Sit Stay Love – Book Review

There’s an old adage that says that we should never judge a book by its cover, but let’s be honest: sometimes, we just can’t help ourselves. Have you ever decided to read a book simply because you feel in love with the cover?

That’s what happened when I saw the photo of Tippy – the elderly, overweight dog on the cover of Dana Mentink’s new novel, Sit Stay Love. I simply couldn’t resist those irresistible eyes so I decided I’d give the new-to-me author a whirl – and I’m so glad I did!

Sit Stay Love is the charming story of three characters – Cal, Gina, and Tippy – whose paths become entwined when Cal’s mother passes away.

Cal Crawford is a successful Major League baseball player but a bit of a tortured soul. Abandoned by his father during his youth, he was raised by his mother, aunt and uncle. When his mother passes away, he wants to focus his energies on baseball, but he has a slight problem.

Cal has been left to care for Tippy – his mother’s 13-year old, overweight dachshund – and Cal just isn’t a dog person! What will he do with the dog?

He decides to do what anyone with a little bit of clout and a lot of cash would do. He tries to use his financial resources to pawn off Tippy on someone else!

Gina Palmer is an unemployed kindergarten teacher who has taken on a temporary pet sitting job through her cousin’s agency as she looks for her next teaching assignment. Cal is the first potential client she meets on her new job – and the two of them get off to a rocky start when Cal tries to dump Tippy on her! But, Gina establishes the parameters of their working relationship and Cal hires to care for – not adopt Tippy!

As the story develops, Cal and Gina move past their initial poor impressions of one another and begin to see one another in a different light. Will Tippy, the unwanted geriatric dog, be able to bring these two lonely, unhappy people together?

Sit Stay Love is a charming, faith-based love story that will delight dog lovers, baseball aficionados, and fans of contemporary romances stories alike! Best of all, the author is donating a portion of the proceeds of this book towards senior dog rescue.

I rate this book series 5 out of 5 stars.
