Compass Study Bible – Book Review
Are you looking for a Bible that:
- Speaks to a whole new generation of believers?
- Is easily understood by new Christians and non-believers?
- Helps mature Christians connect to God in a fresh new way?
If so, then Compass – The Study Bible For Narrating Your Life might be just what you are seeking!
Compass – The Study Bible For Narrating Your Life is the first Study Bible that’s available in The Voice translation – one of the most unique Bible translations available to Christians today.
The Ecclesia Bible Society – a diverse team of artists, musicians, editors, writers, pastors and Bible scholars – completed The Voice translation in 2012. According to Ecclesia Bible Society President Chris Seay:
The Voice translation was written by and for a church in transition.
Most Bible translations are translated using a specific translation principle: word-for-word, thought-for-thought, paraphrase, amplified. What makes The Voice translation unique is that it does not subscribe to any one Bible translation principle. Instead, it uses a hybrid approach and combines all of these methodologies at various times throughout the translation process.
Because the action occurs in the present tense in this translation, you are often swept into the drama of the Bible – you become part of the story. Conversations are labeled as if they were dialogues in a play. Chapter names and sub-titles disappear. Familiar words, titles, and terms are replaced with new ones. Commentaries appear within the text itself.
This approach, however, is not without controversy.
Traditionalists will be surprised – even shocked – by some of the changes. Others who find traditional translations difficult to read may discover that the Compass Study Bible opens up God’s Word to them in a way no other Bible ever has before.
Following is a list of the Study Bible resources you’ll find inside. To truly qualify as a Study Bible in my eyes, I would have liked to have seen more study resources included.
- Road Map To God’s Promises
- The Titles Of Jesus
- A 40-Day Retreat With Jesus
- 360 Days Through The Whole Bible
- Topical Guide To The Notes
- Topical Guide To The Scripture
As a Devotional Bible, the Compass Study Bible makes a great addition to one’s Bible collection. As a Study Bible, the Compass Study Bible will not satisfy a serious student of God’s Word.
