The Reason We Call Him Tsunami

Tsunami The InnocentIs Tsunami Aptly Named?
You Be The Judge!

Last night, as I drifted off to la-la land, I was awakened by the sounds of a LOUD CRASH BOOM!

Normally I would investigate but I was too tired to move. I told myself it was the neighbors. I went back to sleep.

Today, I was greeted by a wide-eyed cherub. He followed me with all of the innocence he could feign. This should have tipped me off to the fact that I would soon come face to face with a disaster of cyclonic proportions.

Tsunami's RunwayTsunami’s Nesting Spot & Runway

I headed off to The Paper Palace to start my day. One of Tsunami’s favorite nesting spots is on top of the white cabinets that harbor my crafty flower garden. He loves to lounge there and weave in and out of the blinds.

Tsunami has a unique way of travelling to this space. He does not walk over to the cabinets and jump on top of them, like an ordinary cat. Instead, he races from the living room through the halls to The Paper Palace, where he tears across my desk, full throttle, then launches off of the keyboard tray with all of his weight and flies to his chosen spot.

The Launch PadThe Launch Pad

Usually, he does this when I am around. When I hear him coming, I race to move things out of his path, and I brace my knee against the keyboard tray to fortify it against his weight. Last night, however, I fell asleep during sentry duty.

As a result, the weight of Tsunami launching off of my keyboard tray finally broke it – causing it to crash to the floor, along with my keyboard, mouse, and a number of assorted items!

So today, instead of crafting, I am performing disaster recovery. Instead of card-making, I am fortifying the Paper Palace against CAT-ASTROPHES!

Is it any wonder we named this cat Tsunami!

Have a wonderful WOYWW and Wordless/Wordy Wednesday, dear friends!

When I was young, there was a woman who lived behind us with her husband and three children, and an assortment of pets. She was highly intelligent, well-educated, and a free spirit who would get up at 5 in the morning to read Greek classics IN GREEK! She had a cat whose name was Ambulance. I'm sure you can guess why!!

  2. trisha too says:

Nope, he looks totally innocent to me.

Must be some other naughty kitty . . .

I'm with Trisha I don't think it was Tsunami. Sounds more like a dog got in caused havoc and is now implicating your beautiful cat.

  11. myorii says:

Wow, what an interesting cat he is 🙂 I wish there was a video of him making that run and jump thing you described. That would be so much fun to watch!

  12. Debbie says:

Just like a little kid, they can cause so much disaster in proportion to body size!

He's adorable! Aren't cats hilarious? I had a cat like that, she broke so much stuff by jumping all over my furniture 'n such. It would make me mad when it happened, but I couldn't stay mad at her. Cats are just that way 🙂

thanks for stopping by my blog and visiting the furry first fridays post.

Found you on Hop Along Friday blog hop and am now following you on GFC. From one animal lover to another, I love this post! Gotta love em don't ya? At one point we had 3 cats and 3 dogs, all indoors. At this point, we are down to one dog and two cats (very mischievous as well!)

I have two cats, and they are named accordingly what fits them, as well. The older one "Prince" was named for that name, because he was so regal, even as a "kitty" and so prim and proper.

Love the name Tsunami…well fits your kitty. So much fun to see them leap, and jump into action, but not so fun when they destroy things. I hope you were able to recuperate your losses…LOL, but not so funny when things get destroyed:-(((
Loved your post, and glad we're following each other:DDD

  23. Avalon Cat Cartoons says:

Love your cat; he's so handsome. And what a great name! Thanks for following my cat blog, by the way. I was already a follower of yours. Have a lovely weekend!

  24. Jenny says:

What a cute story…and you definitely named him right…

…or, did he just become so ornery to live up to his name?

I am in envy over your craft room! What an incredible place to create!

Thanks for a cute link for Alphabe-Thursday this week.

    A+

  25. ShanimalsCrackers.blogspot.com says:

He has an appropriate name, then.

My cat's name is Sassafras (Sassy for short). She sleeps with me in my bed and instead of jumping on my bed from the floor, like a normal cat, she will use my nightstand. Now, I'm a pretty messy person, and usually my nightstand drawers are open. So…she clings to the open drawer to pull herself up, then jumps from the drawer onto my bed. Usually, though, when she's gripping the drawer, she's so heavy that she puts too much weight onto the drawer, thus knocking my whole nightstand over. This is annoying because I keep tons of junk on top of it. Then I have to pick everything up AGAIN.

  26. Tertia says:

If ever there was a feline with an apt name, it is yours. Your post made me LOL. Don't think I would be laughing if he was my cat though.
    Happy very belated WOYWW

  27. Keetha Broyles says:

    LOL Cat-astrophy!!!

  28. Dimple says:

Tsunami is beautiful, and if this post showcases typical behavior, he certainly has the right name!

  29. qandlequeen says:

I had a cat and a big ol' 80 pound dog. From the basement I could tell the dog's movements by the clicking of his nails on the hardwood floors. The cat? I decided to call it the Midnight Three Ring Circus. Surely she was swinging from the chandeliers (and we didn't have any chandeliers) and dropping to the floor. The noise that beast could make!

Hope you get your office back to working order soon!

  30. Unknown Mami says:

Only a cutie like that could get away with such destruction.

  31. Ispirato Design says:

Probably the most beautiful cat I've ever seen and no I've never said that before. From the sounds of it Tsunami fits! I'm visiting from Debbie's party and I'm your newest follower! Would love it if you stopped by- I'm having a pet portrait give away!
