Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;
He is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:11
Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened,
Which the Lord has told us about.
Luke 2:15
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back, over 2000 years in time, to Bethlehem during the season of Jesus’ birth?
What was it like to be a shepherd in the fields, tending to your flocks, when a host of heavenly angels appeared before your eyes, praising God as they announced the birth of the Christ child?
How would it feel to experience the sights and sounds of the town…
To meet the local townspeople…
To barter at the marketplace…
To interact with the local artisans…
The experience would be amazing, as my family discovered when we traveled Back To Bethlehem for a re-enactment of the first Christmas. Some traveled by donkey…some by camel…but most, like us, traveled on foot.
The crowd was thick as people poured in to register for the census that Caesar Augustus had ordered. The town was filled with Roman soldiers ready to arrest anyone who protested Caesar’s laws or taxes.
As we were in town, excitement filled the air as word spread that a Savior had been born in a manger. We quickly followed the crowds to look for the newborn infant.
The crowds led to an Inn where an inn-keeper was turning away weary travelers…
Or renting out stalls with the stable animals…
It was there that we found the young couple and the newborn, wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
May you be blessed beyond measure with the true spirit of Christmas during this most joyous of seasons!
Merry Christmas !!!!
