WOYWW – Inspirational Frames

Bound For Glory - Frames By Andy Botts

Frames by Andy Botts
Artwork from Bound For Glory

Happy WOYWW, dear friends! A few days ago, I reviewed an amazing book called Bound For Glory that features amazing word art by famed calligrapher Timothy R. Botts and reflections on African American spirituals. You can see samples of his amazing artwork on my review post (click the book links).

This picture – also from the book – shows the frames that Timothy’s oldest son, Andy, made out of salvaged wood molding for his paintings.

I thought I’d share them with you because they remind me of a set of realistically photographed scrapbooking photo mats I collected a few years back. Looking at this photo inspires me to dig them out and put those mats to new use!

What’s inspiring you this week?

Have a fabulous day!

The story is even better (I don’t know if it’s mentioned in Tim’s book or not). Andy works with a ministry in inner-city St. Louis (MO) that rehabs dilapidated homes and makes them available for residents to get a new start. I’m pretty sure all the wood for the frames comes from these projects. I worked with a youth group a couple of years ago that spent a week with the ministry — pulling nails, sanding, scraping and generally helping. Very cool indeed!

I love frames. I use to make a lot of them when I was doing stained glass which reminds me, I have one to repair after I get the bedroom remodeled so that I can hang in the window.
