Question Of The Week
What are your favorite Christmas carols?
Are there any songs that embody the spirit of Christmas for you?
Do you participate in any special musical events during the holiday season?
Share the music that makes you merry this Friendship Friday!
My Thoughts
I love the Christmas season and the beautiful music it brings!
With each passing Christmas season, the message of the
Traditional Christmas carols grow more meaningful to me.
My favorite Christmas song is Oh Holy Night…
But there are many others I love as well!
Another favorite Christmas song –
One that particularly embodies the spirit of Christmas – is
The Little Drummer Boy, which was written in 1941 and
Originally called Carol Of The Drum.
It was recorded by the Trapp Family Singers in 1955
(Yes, the family memorialized in The Sound Of Music!)
I love this song because it tells the story of a poor drummer boy
Who gives the gift of himself and his music for the baby Jesus.
His heartfelt gift always reminds me of what Christmas is about!
My favorite version of this song was recorded by Bob Seger in 1987.

Wow, Laurie… I got chills watching you and Richard dance!
You two are SO gifted!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful interpretation of O Holy Night with us at Friendship Friday this week!

I don’t think they are childish at all – that’s one of the joys of the season – I think we ALL become childlike at Christmastime!
Have a great weekend Paula!
Seriously, I can’t believe it- The Little Drummer Boy is my very fave song…I love all carols and hymns though that tell the story and theology of the Lord. Happy Friday (almost)!
Lots of Little Drummer Boy lovers out there!
Have a great weekend Dawn!
I love almost every Christmas carol, but I have lots of special memories singing “The Little Drummer Boy” with children. I loved the spirit of the version by Sean Quigley last Christmas season: http://raisingfigureskaters.com/2011/12/16/using-talents-and-spreading-joy-sean-quigley/
Great video Deb – this is the first time I’ve seen Sean’s version!
I swear all the neat Posts come out at Christmas time. I love yours this week. All Christmas songs are my favorite just as all Christmas movies are my favorite. Have a great weekend. Thanks for a fun Friendly Friday!
Thank you so much Dolly – I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
P.S. Christmas movies – I may just have to keep that in mind as a possible theme for the future! 🙂
Thank you so much for hosting! I would have to say one of my favorite carols is “O, Holy Night.” I really love all of the traditional carols, though (Silent Night, O Come all ye Faithful, etc.), as well. 🙂
I do too. I always enjoy sharing my favorites during Christmas week!
I have the Little Drummer Boy as one of my faves too… but I have the Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet version…
That’s a great version too!

Thank you Diane… I wish you an extraordinary Christmas season too!
I look forward to this blog hop each week in anticipation of what the question will be, it makes things more personal. My favorite Christmas song is also The Little Drummer Boy also it was also my favorite Christmas movie as a child. I couldn’t wait for it to come on even though I always cried when the lamb got hit.
Thanks so much for your feedback Joyce – I always love it when people take the time to share!
Hope your holiday season is filled with peace and joy! 🙂
You highlighted my very favorite, The Little Drummer Boy. This song always makes me tear up. It is precious. Christmas songs are one of my favorite parts of the season.
Thanks for joining us this week Tracey – I’m so glad we have so many Little Drummer Boy lovers at this week’s party!
Hope you are having a Christmas season filled with love and joy!
My daughter just sung the Drummer Boy song at her Christmas program today. She is a very strong singer, and I love hearing her sing. I think she projects her voice tremendously well, just a proud mom. The other song she sung was Silver Bells, and she did an awesome job, it is crazy how she stays on pitch. Ok, I better stop before you find out I have no one to talk to about my discovery of this child. Smiles. Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh what a marvelous experience that must have been, Amanda – experiencing the musical gift of your daughter during the Christmas season!
Silver Bells – another favorite! That song always makes me feel SO nostalgic! You all are definitely putting me in a “songs of the season” mood!
Enjoy your weekend too as you count down the days to Christmas! 🙂
I love christmas carols, I really like that Bob Seger version too 🙂
It’s so soulful!
I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season Alicia. Thanks for joining us this weekend! 🙂

Hi, new follower. I love your site. I really like the animals. I remember seeing that claymation Little Drummer Boy when I was a kid. I’m old enough to have seen it when it was made and aired for the first time. It got to me then and it gets to me now. Thanks for posting this!
