I’ve been trying to streamline everything as of late to try to speed up the load times on my website so if you can’t find something you think should be there – just ask! 🙂

  5. I dislike the experience of reading a newspaper (awkward to hold & fold, time wasted going to articles continued on another page, ink stains & smudges, odd smell), so I prefer reading news stories on line. But I love holding and reading a nice edition of a print book, and much prefer that to an ebook. Thanks for hosting & God bless!

Yay I am early to the party for a change, looking forward to see more cool stuff. Thank you for Friendship Friday!

Happy to see you this weekend Theresa! I also love books! I blog from a desktop (which I love – call me old-fashioned) but I’d love one of those new cool tablets for the convenience as well!

Have a great weekend & I hope to share at your party this weekend also! 🙂

Thank you so much for the invite and for joining this week’s Harvest of Friends Weekend Blog Hop!

Although I love both printed and e-books, I am a bit old fashioned, so I would definitely have to go with printed as my preference. I also prefer laptops, because they have that desktop feel and are portable at the same time. 🙂

  10. DeDe says:

I still prefer a good old fashion book! I use a tablet and a desk top, I am hoping to get a laptop soon!

  11. Hi Ramona!
Wow…doesn’t a week go by quickly?!!
Okay…I don’t have a Kindle or a Nook…but I do have the Kindle for PC on my laptop. And no….I don’t like reading e-books. But, on other hand, it is very handy and most e-books are not really long so it’s quite doable. It’s just not the same as sitting with a pen or marker and notating.
I’ve had a desk top computer and a lap top…no tablets in my near future. I’m thinking that I would love the portability of the tablet…but I’ve been more than pleased with my laptop. I’ve had two over at least 9 years if not longer. I much prefer the portability of the laptop over the desktop. But, with editing photos and such, I would love to have the big screen of the desk top.
I’m not really sure that answers your question… Haha!
    Hope your weekend is extraordinary!!

  12. I like to keep my options open. I love having ebooks available to me when I’m on the run and find myself waiting for someone, but I love the feel and smell of paper books.

Same for computers – it depends where I am. At home my desktop is where I am – its comfortable and I know where things are.

But if we’re traveling – I need my laptop!

I recently got a basic Kindle and am in the process of collecting e-books to read when I’m on the road. I love the convenience of it too – but at home, when I want to read, I still find myself turning to a “real” book!

I agree also about traveling – definitely want to stay connected!

Funny how the more tecnologically advanced we become, the more techonolgy we seem to need, isn’t it?

      Have a fabulous weekend! 🙂

    Hello Ramona,

Well I love me PRINTED books but can’t resist freebies for Kindle! I do not like getting books on PDF or ebook generally but occasionally make an exception.

I want a laptop sooooooooooooooo bad. But will work with my computer until…

    Happy Friday.
Dishing out some encouragement for the Sistas this week! 😉

  14. I definitely prefer paper books. I read e-books on my phone occasionally but I love going to the library and picking out books. I love the feel of the pages!
Computer? Either! I primarily use a laptop.

I prefer printed book, if I am going to read something I really want to read- like planning on it for a while. Ebooks if they are just spur of the moments.
I prefer my laptop over my ipad, for now, it is robust, and can do all that my phone, ipad, can do. No desk top for me. Have a wonderful weekend!

  16. Pakize says:

I can not imagine a life without my laptop & smartphone, got so used to them! I prefer reading books even though I am doing a lot of social netowrking online, nothing can take the place of a nice book reading right before going to sleep 😀

  19. When ebooks first became available I was reluctant to make the switch but now my Kindle goes everywhere with me. If I ever have to wait on someone I have my Kindle to occupy my time. I also love the amount of free books that are available. I have read many authors I would have never read otherwise and it didn’t cost me a dime.

Thanks for hosting this Blog Hop!

I don’t have a tablet, but think I’d prefer a paper book anyways which is why I never looked into getting one.

And I prefer my desktop computer first, and my iPhone second 🙂

    Hello!

I prefer e-books now that I have my kindle. I used to love books, but I got so spoiled. As for the computer vs. tablet, since purchasing my iPad, I totally prefer the tablet. Portable, and oh so nice to use on the go! Thanks for hosting Friendship Friday!

  24. Lisa says:

I do have a Kindle with lots on it, but there still is nothing like the feeling of a book in your hand. I do prefer a laptop over a desktop. It can go wherever I do. 🙂 Thanks for hosting. Have a great weekend. 🙂

  25. Marilyn Porter says:

Needless to say, there are pros and cons to everything; the methods of which we enjoy a good book is no exception.

In my opinion, the virtual method (e-books) has the advantage of entertainment, knowledge, instant access, and portability of hundreds of books at my fingertips, not to mention maintenance and spatial considerations.

The material method (books) are somehow pleasant to the sense of touch, which helps ground me between imagination and reality through physical necessities such as turning a page and even hugging the book when touched by a poem or particular insight which strikes me as “precious.” It provides me the opportunity to “mark” sections for later reference, or include personal thoughts and ideas in the margins throughout the book or on designated blank pages provided especially for that purpose. And who can ignore the feeling of awe when perusing a well-stocked and maintained library. It is almost overwhelming when I consider its contents of imagination and history and knowledge.

However, I can’t ignore one additional method, which actually has become my preference expecially for fictional writings. The audiobook! It is by far the most versatile method in creating a whole library’s worth of books in minimal space and upkeep through downloading them on small devices (MP3’s, CD’s, DVD’s, etc), A combination of a well-written engaging story line, coupled with an accomplished reader, enhanced by a cup of delicious coffee or other desired beverage, is my definition of ultimate relaxation. On the flipside, audiobooks have become my motivator to accomplish (what I consider) the mundane things that require minimal concentration. Cooking, cleaning, ironing, even waiting in line for appointments have become opportunities of enjoyment instead of “chores” and “annoyances.” And I can’t forget the audiobook as a solution to my optical concerns such as tired, dry, or eye strain problems. All of which, unfortunately, are becoming more and more evident and bothersome as I grow older.

So I say — “To each their own!” And, whichever method brings enjoyment to us, let’s always remember to be thankful for books and their authors! 🙂

Interesting topic…I have an ereader which I like very much. However, I find that I still prefer reading ‘old-fashioned’ books with pages. AND magazines! (They just aren’t the same in digital!) I would be very interested to see how others compare ipads, pc, laptops…currently I use a laptop, but am thinking of getting an ipad. Thanks for hosting Friendship Friday!

  29. Right now I’m all about e-book – I love my Kindle, especially since I’m a fast reader so it’s nice to have lots of books ready to go without the stack. 🙂 It will also come in handy when we go on vacation – there was one year I read all the books I brought with me and had to try to find one I’d like to read at the over-priced gift store.

First preference is my laptop, second is my tablet. I can type much faster on my laptop – maybe if I got a keyboard for my tablet I’d be more apt to use the tablet, but then again I do like the 17-inch screen on my laptop, and I have a 42-inch flat panel hanging on the wall above my desk for dual screens when I’m doing graphic design and/or blog hopping and watching my favorite shows on Hulu. 🙂

Thanks for hosting – have a great weekend!:)

I prefer e-readers and laptops. I like that they are convenient and portable, easy for travel. I do like tablets as well, but I like having the keyboard on the laptop.

    Have a great weekend!

Taking a little posting break, but still visiting favorite blogs and parties. Will look around my page and see if I could link up.

  34. Allen @ Funny Baby Videos says:

I prefer printed books. Electronic books are too sensetive. A “real” book takes less effort to maintain. Low maintenance is the best.

    Thanks for hosting!

  35. Vita says:

Hi! This is my first time linking up to your blog hop. I just wrote a post this week on how much I love books, and one day I really would like to have private library (like you see in old movies). I never liked reading off a computer or tablet even in my study years. Nope everything has to be printed.

Hope you have time to check my blog out.

    xo, Vita

  36. Thanks so much for hosting this blog hop! I can’t wait to meet lots of new bloggers this weekend!

For your questions, I’m going to answer them in reverse order:

Desktop Computers, Laptops, or Tablets? It depends on the time of day. I use my desktop in the morning if everyone is still sleeping. I use my laptop at night when I’m watching television with my husband (and he is on his laptop too!). I don’t own a tablet yet!

Printed Books or E-books? Okay, that’s where I’m old school. I love to read, and part of that is feeling the book in my hand. I am always reading a lot of articles on my laptop, so I’m sure at some point soon I’ll make the transition to ebooks.

I was thinking about E-books vs paper books last night, and I realized that I missed paper books. It wasn’t because of the texture or the smell, it was because noone could contact me while I read them. Now, when I’m reading a book, notifications will pop up and bring me back to the real world. When I’m trying to unwind at the end of the day, I just don’t need that!

  38. What a great idea for Fridays! I’ll have to join again next week! I posted about a networking event I am hosting. Hope you can stop by! Great blog!

Oh, and I prefer books and laptops!

  39. Hazel Moon says:

I prefer a real book that I can hold, turn the pages and share with a friend when I am done. I do not desire a kindle where I need to carry it around even though it holds many books free and otherwise. Thanks for hosting your lovely site. Blessings to you and those who participate.

I just finished writing a blog to answer your questions (better late than never)… and I feel like a dinosaur – lol. Wishing you a happy weekend!
