Quote Of The Day
If a cat did not put a firm paw down now and then,
How could his human remain possessed?

Fun Facts About Maine Coons

Maine Coons are considered the “gentle giants” of the cat world.
They are an extremely popular cat breed whose
Ancestral origins are shrouded in myth and mystique!

One popular folk tale explains how they got the “Maine” in their name.
Marie Antoinette – the Queen of France – was executed in 1793.
Before her death, many say she attempted to escape from France to America
With the help of Captain Samuel Clough.

She boarded Captain Clough’s ship with her most prized possessions,
Which included six of her favorite Turkish Angora cats.

Although she did not make it to America alive,
Her cats safely landed on the shores of Wiscasset, Maine.

There, they bred with other short-haired cats and eventually,
Evolved into the modern Maine Coon Cat which we love and adore!

Intrigued?
Stay tuned – now that you know how the “Maine” came about,
Next week we’ll look at the mythology behind the “Coon”!

Today’s photo features Legend,
One of the Gentle Giants at Create With Joy!

Legend is so exquisite, Mom wanted to jump through the computer screen and give him a big smooch. Our angel Daphne was part Maine Coon and our Giulietta looks like she could be as well.
