GlipIt Bible – Book Review
Today I’ve been asked to review what easily qualifies as the most unusual Bible I’ve reviewed to date. That Bible is the new glipit Bible NLT from Tyndale House Publishers – a 4 x 6 Bible specifically designed to help 8 to 12 year old children express their faith their way.
“Glipit” stands for God’s Love Is Perfect, Patient and Personal!
What makes this Bible so unique is not its contents, but its cover. The glipit Bible comes in your choice of two silicone cover color palettes – the primary-based blue cover or the pretty pastel-based purple palette – and an additional package of 120 complementary colored pieces that pop into place over the raised bumps on the silicone cover, allowing your child to design a custom cover for their Bible – and to change it at will.

As colorful as this Bible is on the outside – inside, the glipit Bible is rather austere. There are no illustrations – no color – just a sea of very tiny print. There are no study aids of any type. The only resource material you’ll find is at the beginning of the book, in the Where Can I Find It section and the Historical Journey Through The Bible and You Can Know The Lord Personally articles.
Size-wise, the glipit Bible would make a great travel Bible – if you like the New Living Translation and have good eyesight – as it is highly portable and highly durable.
However, as a Children’s Bible for 8 to 12 year olds, the primary selling point of the glipit Bible is its unique cover. I wish its contents were just as inviting.
At best, I’d give this Bible 3 stars.

Interesting. I don’t think the small font would go over well with my daughter’s eyes. She has an extremely hard time with small fonts and is right in the age rang. I also wonder if it ends up being used more as an art project than anything else? Hmmmm…. Thanks for the honest review!

Yes, that is my concern with this Bible! I want children to be excited about what’s INSIDE their Bible, and to treat it as God’s Holy Word – not to approach it as a toy!
(The cover really reminds me of a cross between Legos and Lite Brite!)
I appreciate the publisher’s attempt to produce a Bible for children in this age range – a REAL Bible – but if I were designing the book, I’d choose a different focus.

Thanks for a great review. I have to agree with you, that is such a shame that they poured all their resources into the cover and made no attempt to engage with the content. In my teens the Bible adaptation ” The Message” was all the rage, but it was actually fabulous in getting kids to engage with the bible. I wish this could have been similar, or at least some study notes relevant to the age group. Thanks for joining in the Kid Lit Blog Hop

Sounds like a bizzare product. I wonder how successful the age range is at keeping the little block pieces together.

I don’t know – but I would be concerned about purchasing this in a household where younger children and pets had access as those pieces are mighty small and could be easily swallowed.
A lot of the other reviewers are reporting that their children are loving it – and I’m sure the creative aspects are fun.
Personally, however, this wouldn’t be my first choice of a bible for a child.
