Precious Moments With Magellan

Last year, I lost someone near and dear to my heart. The loss was so devastating, I couldn’t share my feelings with anyone. Only my husband knew the depth of my grief and the difficulty I was having moving forward.

To help me during this difficult time, my husband gave me the most tangible gift of love he could find. That gift came wrapped in a beautiful bundle of fur and packaged in the body of an 11-week old Maine Coon kitten.

1st Moments With Magellan

My withering heart began to blossom from the first moment I laid eyes on that precious gift.

I named my kitten Magellan, after the mighty explorer.

My Tiny Bundle Of Joy

On the night of Magellan’s arrival, I stayed with him in his “safe room” – a special place set up to allow him to comfortably acclimate to his new environment. Although I tossed and turned on the floor all night – the room was a work in progress – I did not want Magellan to spend his first night alone.

Magellan must have appreciated my sacrifice because during that time, the bond between Magellan and I flourished. The next day, Magellan sauntered out of his safe room and into my world, breathing new life into every part of my heart and home.

Needless to say, the two of us are now inseparable.

 Magellan & Mom

I love every moment I spend with Magellan – I take none for granted. The moments I cherish most are the moments I hold him in my arms. Because Maine Coons grow so large,  it’s been a long time since I’ve held one that fits so perfectly in my arms – particularly a kitten that’s enjoys snuggling as much as Magellan does!

I know Magellan cherishes these moments too. His purrs speak louder than words. But – as an active kitten – I know playtime also ranks high on his list of favorite pastimes!

Magellan Loves Interactive Games

When it comes to playtime, it’s not about the quantity of toys you have on hand or the amount of money you spent on them – it’s about the quality of the time and the amount of interaction you spend with your pet!

Magellan has a house filled with toys. He’s pretty inventive when it comes to creating his own games. But, Magellan’s favorite games are always the interactive ones that have a human attached to the other end of the toy!

He Always Brings His Toys To Me - Even In Bed

The time that you spend with your pets matters – not just to you but to them as well. Magellan loves following me all around the house and playing in all of my favorite hangouts. But his favorite place to hang out remains the place we first met – the place we first bonded.

His “safe room”.

Newly remodeled, Magellan guards that room vigilantly and considers it his “home within his home”.

Magellan in His Special Room

When you befriend a kitten, you make a friend for life. Magellan has been with me for 2 months now, and it’s clear that we are forever friends. Every day he reminds me how much our time together matters.

Every day Magellan reminds me it’s the little things – these precious moments – that create a lifetime of friendship and a home filled with precious memories.

OMC… he is precious! And wow only 2 months? He sure is growing like a weed! What a wonderful story and so glad having him around has helped you throw a difficult time. He looks like a great friend 🙂

      Hi Ann,

Isn’t it amazing how fast Magellan is growing? I literally think I can see him grow before my eyes on a daily basis, he is growing so fast!
Magellan was just under 3 months (11 weeks) when we got him and he just turned 5 months old. Behavior-wise, he is still very much a kitten
(Maine Coons are a slow-maturing breed) but size-wise – he is already the size of some full grown cats! It’s hard to wrap your head around…

He is a total cuddle-bunny though (when he isn’t running around like a wild cat!) He loves being carried around and snuggling under my chin…

Thank you for sharing with us here at “Tell Me a Story,” the blessing your sweet hubby gave to you to ease your grieving heart. Animals are such a part of our families and Magellan had made a home in your heart as well as the ‘safe room.’

Yes, Hazel – Magellan is precious but the fact that my husband brought him to me during this time for this purpose makes him extra special and extra loved!

I wish you could see him race to his “safe room” every time I go by it…

Magellan is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing him with us.

I did not know that you have only had him since last year. Such a heart felt story, I’m glad he like to snuggle. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Karren – yes, Magellan arrived right before Christmas so he’s only been here for 2 months – to hear him tell it, though, he’s been here forever and he totally owns the place (and us – he’s a “guarder”!)

      Have a great day!

I am so sorry for your loss, yet so happy that you have Magellan in your life now. Thank you for sharing with us. Sending you blessings and many prayers.

I’m adding a guest post that Neighbor Girl did at Jump Into A Book. She used her creativity in planning the video and I used my creativity in making the printable. It was a fun project to do together. Thanks for all of your blogging work. We appreciate you!

  9. Faraday: Seriouslies. This needs to come with a SQUEE warning. (Mommy nearly blew my delicate eardrum out when she first saw Magellan! Which would be okay if it were Maxwell who was in her lap since he’s deaf and stuff, but I digress.)

Maxwell: We’re so very, very glad Magellan is healing your heart. That was my job, too, when momma adopted me. We share a very special bond as well, and we told that story in our #RecipeForMoments post last Thursday.

Purrs to you and thanks for sharing!

Magellan is adorable and he sounds like a sweetie. I’m glad you have had him to help you; Maine Coons are affectionate cats so that was a good choice.

Happy Cat Thursday to you Bea – thanks for stopping by!
      Maine Coons are SO awesome!
They are all sweethearts but Magellan is a particularly affectionate cat – purr-fect for me! 🙂

  13. Oh Magellan you are one gorgeous kitty!

    Your Mom said it best:

“The time that you spend with your pets matters – not just to you but to them as well. ”

    YES! I couldn’t agree more.

Wonderful story, Ramona. I’m so glad Magellan was able to come into your life at a difficult time and help you through. I know when my marriage first broke up, my cats…especially Arya, my lap (and chest) kitty…were a real comfort. I truly believe our pets are gifts from a higher power. 🙂
