Mom Seeks God – Book Review
If you are a new mom or the mother of a young child and are finding it difficult to carve out a spiritual life in the midst of sleepless nights and relentless daytime schedules, you’re not alone! Author Julia Roller and the new mothers she knows have experienced this too, and she’s written a new book to help transform what could be a spiritually challenging time into a spiritually rewarding one!
In Mom Seeks God – Practicing Grace In The Chaos, Julia Roller shares her personal attempts to incorporate ten spiritual disciplines into her life – disciplines she learned from Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration Of Discpine. The disciplines she focuses on – one month at a time – are:
- Prayer
- Fellowship
- Submission
- Study
- Simplicity
- Silence
- Worship
- Failure and Fasting
- Service
- Celebration
Julia’s book is highly engaging as she shares not only her personal stories and those of other moms, but draws from a wealth of other authors to provide much food for thought.
You’ll appreciate the practical “non-expert” tips Julia provides at the end of each chapter to help you incorporate each spiritual discipline into your life.
One of the things I particularly liked about the book is that, if you’re busy, you don’t really need to read it from cover to cover in one sitting – you can really read it one chapter at a time – digest it – and put that month’s spiritual practice into action before moving on.
You don’t even really need to read the chapters in order!
If you’re a new mom – a mom seeking God – or a mom looking for a great book to share with your friends – be sure to check out Mom Seeks God by Julia Roller!
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
