Your Feelings – Book Review
Emotions are God-given gifts that help us to deal with the things that we experience in life. When things go well, we experience wonderful emotions such as happiness, laughter and love. Sometimes, however, we experience things in life that are more difficult for us to understand and deal with. When that happens, we experience emotions such as anger, jealousy and sadness.
Emotions such as these are often difficult for adults to deal with. How do we teach our children to process their feelings in emotionally and spiritually healthy ways? How do we ensure that our children learn how to handle their hurts without causing themselves and others pain?
Your Feelings And What God Says About Them by Julie Chapus holds the answers to these very important questions!
Your Feelings is a spiritually based book that offers parents sound biblical answers to these questions. Written for children ages 9 and up, Julie provides an A-Z guide for identifying challenging emotions and situations that your children may be dealing with – and provides you with biblical examples, counsel and prayers to help you and your child deal with the situation.
Julie says:
This book came about after my then-nine-year-old daughter started sharing with me her struggle with bad thoughts. After listening to her, I knew that God wanted me to help her and show her what He has done for me, so she would understand how God can help her too.
I also knew that the best way I could do this would be to write down many of the things God has been teaching me, in the language that a child could understand. Once I started writing, I realized that these lessons weren’t meant just for me, but for all of God’s children who are struggling with the many sorts of problems that we all face in our lives. So what started as a conversation with my daughter eventually turned into this book.
Your Feelings is a beautifully written book and a spiritual reference and devotional that parents and children will find invaluable!
I highly recommend this book and rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author for review purposes. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

My daughter doesn’t express when she’s scared. The book could help her know that it’s okay to express those feelings.

I work in the mental health field and this book would be excellent for the children I work with. One of the feelings most of my children struggle with is anger. The children I work with often find it difficult to express their emotions and I feel this book would be excellent to read to them and help generate a conversation with them.

Yes, anger is one of the most difficult of emotions to deal with.
Think of how much further ahead a child will be in life if they learn to master this emotion early on!
This would be a great addition to our church library! We have so many adopted kids in our church–most of which have serious emotional needs.

My young daughter has so many anxieties and fears. Storms, when I go out to the store, or when I go on a date with my husband. She really needs a book like this I believe.
My daughter has trouble with patience and get s angry when she doesn’t get thing right away.
Feelings….Wow…this is the perfect subject for my son right now, all his friends keep moving away, and he’s having a really hard time dealing with it.
I think my daughter struggles with feeling frustrated sometimes … when her little brother messes up her toys or when she does not get her way. She’s 3, so it’s completely normal, but any way to help her understand her feelings and how to deal with them might get her closer to healthily dealing with them!

I have one granddaughter who gets her nose out of shape, when she is not in charge and then she does not want to play with the other granddaughters, I think she has some problems with sharing friends and ideas.
My son always wants to win, to be number one bec. he has a younger brother. He is quite timid or lack of confidence. He is quite hot-temper too. I hope this book can show him that feelings is normal and how he could overcome it. (Singapore, von0212 AT gmail DOT com)

I pray that your daughter learns peace – learns that God is always with her, watching over her, and always protecting her.
Best of luck to you in the giveaway!
Sometimes anger, and this book might help with that or other issues when he gets older.
Looks great! Adding to my TBR!
I live in the US. My nephew struggles most with expressing sadness.
Definitely Your Feelings, I have three Grandchildren 12 and 11 and one newborn and I think they would definitely get a lot from this book as they deal with what this world dishes out in their daily life…Thanks for the chance for the giveaway!
My daughter struggles with anger/frustration, even when its justifiable. She just falls apart crying and throws a tantrum. At her age, it should be a little easier to handle. I would hope the book could teach her how to manage it better and that feeling angry sometimes is not only normal but OK.
My child gets short-temperated when faced with a difficult task
My child has trouble with patience and I think this book would be helpful.
My son Corbin is special needs and although he is very smart and so sweet, his feelings bottle up hard inside him because he doesn’t know how to let them out. He will lay on the floor silent with eyes closed. It would really help him to learn how to express his anger instead of bottling it up!

This book is amazing – I hope you will help spread the work! 🙂
I am humbled over this book and how it has the power to change the atmosphere, not only our kids lives but in the family as a whole. I hear time and time again this book is also a tool adults can use. I know that was true for me. When I began writing the Lord brought me several teachings on these emotions. I did not know them prior to this book. I started to put them into practice myself as I was writing. Honestly, if I had known some of these things when I was a kid I really don’t think I would have made the disastrous choices in my life that I made. I cannot change the past all I can do is move forward with the knowledge I have now, and hopefully pass it on to stop others from making the mistakes I made due to the emotions I struggled with.

Hi Julie,
Thank you for sharing your amazing book with us for this year’s Children’s Book Week!
I agree that Your Feelings is a book that the entire family can benefit from.
A lot of adults never learned the lessons it contained and can benefit from the gentle advice you share inside as well!
Your book is such a blessing. I look forward to sharing the new release of your second book, The Blame Game, with my readers as well!
