Out Of The Ruins by Karen Barnett

Out Of The Ruins

Out Of The Ruins – Book Review

Have you ever made a deal with God and then – when things don’t go your way – lost faith in Him and those you thought were part of the answer to your prayer?

I know I have – and chances are, you have too!

It’s okay to admit that.

It’s part of the human condition.

It’s also one of the central themes that Karen Barnett explores in Out Of The Ruins – and one of things that make Abby Fisher such a relatable character!

Let’s travel back in time to see what Out Of The Ruins is all about…

The year is 1905. Cecilia Fischer is dying of leukemia. Her sister Abby – her best friend and confidant – will do anything in her power to save her.

So – when her Cecilia asks Abby to pray for her, she does. Abby prays the prayer of a woman who is at the end of her rope. Abby prays the prayer of the desperate.

God, save her. I’ll do anything. Just make her better. And You’d better be listening, God, because if You dare take her away . . . I’ll never speak to You again.

And – for a while – Abby believes God has answered her prayer. She believes He has sent them a miracle worker in the form of Dr. Robert King – a handsome young man whose risky but cutting-edge experiential radiation treatments hold the potential for a cure.

But Out Of The Ruins takes place in San Francisco during a period in time when a devastating earthquake looms on the horizon, ready to lay the city to waste.

What will happen to Abby, Cecilia, and Robert in the aftermath of the devastation? Will their love for one another and their faith – however tattered it may be –  be strong enough to lead them Out of The Ruins?

Out Of The Ruins is Book 1 in The Golden Gate Chronicles series from Abingdon Press and a fascinating book to read on so many levels. It draws you in from the start and is one of those books that once you start it – you won’t want to put it down!

If you enjoy inspirational stories that successfully combine the genres of sweet romance and compelling historical fiction, then you will enjoy Out Of The Ruins.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
