Welcome To Wordless Wednesday At Create With Joy!
Photos Of The Week – Magellan – Watch Cat
Quote Of The Week
Prowling his quiet backyard or asleep by the fire,
He is still only a whisker away from the wilds.
Jean Burden
The Watch Cat
In most cultures, when it comes to animals who guard our homes,
Our first thoughts drift to the mighty guard dog.
But – as Tara the Cat so majestically proved with her brave feat –
Cats make magnificent watch animals too!
I have lived with Maine Coons my entire adult life and have been
Amazed by their natural tendencies to guard and protect the ones they love!
I have watched Tsunami and Legend sit side by side,
Facing opposite directions, like sentries, guarding our entryways.
I have watched multiple Maines guard their humans while they sleep –
Watch over them when they are sick – and stand watch by doors and windows
When people stayed out later than normal,
Not settling down until all humans were safely home and accounted for!
I’ve been alerted to the presence of people and events
Simply by watching their body language.
How many of you rely on your pets to help keep you safe and aware?

We got our dog, Benny, soon after a break-in at the last home we lived in. Even though he’s a gentle dog, he has done his job keeping people from wandering onto our property. Thanks for sharing and always hosting a great hop! Your cats sound lovely!

Ah, I fear my girls are a bit chicken. Even when it comes to bugs, for the most part they’ll find you and walk you to the bug. The rest is up to you.

I hope everyone is having a terrific week – just a reminder that it is Pet Appreciation Week! How do you show your pets you appreciate them?
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Well, pretty much everything we do in our house revolves around our cats and they know it – so every day in our household is Pet Appreciation week!
Thanks for the blog hop 🙂
Always my pleasure to be a part of it!
Thanks for your great blog hops, I’m going to enjoy looking through them! That kitty cat is very cute!
Magellan is such a handsome cat! Thank you so much for hosting. Have a great week.
FABBY
We have three cats and our alpha female is definitely a watch cat! She will go to the door when she hears the raccoons at night and even will defend our front yard from neighborhood dogs! She has finally allowed one neighbor’s dog to come crawling submissively NEAR her, but not right up TO her. He’s always leashed with his owner in tow.
Have a great day tomorrow!

Those were some amazingly brave kitties, and maybe a little crazy as well. We sure hope none of them were hurt. Thanks for sharing the video. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

Ahhh Magellan is quite the handsome fella. Yes, cats make good guard pets. My girls are afraid of strangers so when they run for the safety of their room I know someone is about the house that shouldn’t be. Great video, btw. Hugs Nan and the Girls
I have 4 watch cats and feel protected, lol !

Maine Coons are such pretty cats. We used to have a neighbor whose Maine Coon would come over to nap on my hubby when it needed a break from the chaos of a five year old.
Beautiful kitty.
Sounds like a great watch cat! Thanks for hosting & God bless!

So very regal.
I once had a Siamese cat names Baby that placed herself in harm’s way between my 5 year old daughter and a great dane mix dog! She ran down the driveway and onto the sidewalk when she saw the big dog coming towards our house. Then she hissed and did the “halloween” kitty stance. The dog decided he didn’t want any part of that and turned and went the other way. It does happen. I’ve seen it, although if I had not I would never have believed it. I had that cat for 18 wonderful years – she was truly amazing.

Thanks for sharing your story with us – what a wonderful brave cat you had!
Magellan you are magnificient and the perfect ‘watch cat’! Happy WW.
Magellan seems like a great watch cat 🙂 I agree that kitties can do a good job of keeping us safe too.
My current cat is a canary cat; he warns me when I’m getting sick. Before the symptoms even start, he starts hanging out with me, staying close to me, and sticks to me until I start getting better. I know I’m getting better when he starts moving away and spending less time with me.

Can always tell with mine as they will growl or their eyes will bulge out when someone is near.
