Music To Inspire You
Welcome to Music Moves Me!
This week we have the opportunity to
Feature a song of our choice.
My pick for the week is
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding!
Here’s the story behind this amazing song:
In June 1967, 26-year old Otis Redding wrote
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay while renting a
Houseboat with his road manager in Sausalito, California.
The song was unlike anything he had previously recorded and
Not everyone supported his choice but he insisted on recording it,
Believing it would be his first #1 song.
Two days after he recorded it, Otis Redding died in a plane crash.
However, his prediction came true.
Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay catapulted to the top of the charts,
Becoming the first posthumous #1 Song by an artist in the US.
It sold over a million copies and won a Grammy for the
Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
Today, this song is considered a standard.
In 1999, BMI named it the 6th most performed song of the 20th century,
With over 6 million radio performances!
