It’s not everyday that an author who is best known for writing Amish novels and Texas contemporaries steps outside of her comfort zone and writes an edgy and potentially controversial story inspired by contemporary events – but that’s what best-selling author Beth Wiseman has delivered to us in The Promise – her latest book from Thomas Nelson.
The Promise tells the story of Mallory Hammond – a well-intentioned, but naive young woman who, fueled by the events of her past, is determined to travel to Pakistan to save lives – in spite of warnings from everyone in her life not to go because of the risk involved.
Unfortunately, Mallory soon discovers that people are not always who they seem to be – promises are easily broken – and in a culture with vastly different values than ours, a double-cross can be life-threatening.
That’s when we must depend on the people who love us the most – even when we’ve pushed them away – and our Heavenly Father – even when it stretches our faith beyond our limits – with our very lives.
