Watch For The Light – Readings For Advent And Christmas – Book Review

This Christmas season, to prepare my heart for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, I am reading a book called Watch For The Light – Readings For Advent And Christmas from Plough Publishing.

To classify this book as a devotional is not entirely accurate. This book features 45 diverse writers whose works include essays, devotionals and poems that have been arranged from November 24 through January 7 to take us on a spiritual and literary journey through the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany seasons.

A few of the notable authors featured in Watch For The Light include Henri Nouwen, Sylvia Plath, Madeline L’Engle, Phillip Yancy, C.S. Lewis, John Donne, and Martin Luther. As you can see from this sampling, this book features quite a mingling of the minds!

One of the things that I like about Watch For The Light is that it reminds us that the coming of Christmas means something different to each of us. We each hold a special part of the Christmas story near and dear to us – and in this book, each writer shares an invaluable insight into what the coming of Christ means.

If you are looking for a seasonal book that will help you to explore what it means to prepare for Christmas – and, at times, perhaps stretch, challenge, or clarify your thoughts – than add Watch For The Light to your holiday reading list.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
