Chat In The Comments: Do You Read With The Seasons?

How Joyful Is Reading Quote

Welcome to our 6th gathering of The Book Nook at Create With Joy! I’m thrilled to welcome those of you who are just discovering our community as well as those who have been with us from the start!

This week, I’m wondering – do you notice a change in your reading preferences as you move from one season to another?

During the Fall and Winter months, I notice I tend to get very introspective, and my mood often spills over into the books I am drawn to. My reading tends to be heavier, weightier, more serious – this season in particular, I found myself drawn to writers of the past and heavier, more theological works.

Now that Spring has sprung, however, I’m ready to lighten things up a bit! I’m ready to delve into all of those great novels that have been stacking up in my TBR pile – lose myself in centuries past – solve some baffling mysteries – read some great children’s books – and focus on all things pet, health and cooking related!

Not it’s your turn! Please share your answer to the following question in the comments or write a Book Nook blog post and share the link!

Do you notice any shifts in your reading preferences as the seasons change – or do you tend to read consistently throughout the year?

Creative Challenge – Book Haiku!

Book-Haiku-Soul-Keeping-Create-With-Jyo.com

For Book Nook 6, I’d like to invite you to participate in a Creative Challenge. Gather your favorite books and use the titles to create Book Haiku!

For this challenge, you can use as many books as you like to create your poem – the only rule is that it must contain a total of 17 syllables when read aloud.

When you’ve written your poems, snap a photo of your books and share it with us by posting it on your blog, linking up, and leaving a comment.

You’re also welcome to share your Book Haiku photos with me on Twitter and Instagram!

Amazon Book Reviewer Boost

Amazon Reviews

Are you a reader or consumer who uses Amazon reviews to help you decide whether or not to read a book or purchase a product? Are you an author who relies on Amazon reviews to help you sell books?

Today, I’d like to invite you to support those members of our community who take their time to provide you with quality reviews on Amazon!

If you are an Amazon book reviewer, you are invited to share your Amazon Book Review profile on this very special link-up.

Then – EVERYONE in our community (but especially those participating in the boost) – are invited to visit as many reviewers as possible – choose one or more reviews that they like – and indicate that YES, the review was helpful to them!

This will help our reviewers to increase their ranking in the Amazon community – let them know their reviews are being read – and encourage them to continue participating in the program!

IMPORTANT: ONLY Add your Amazon Reviewer Profile to this list!
Add your Blog Posts to the Book Nook Link-Up (BELOW!)
ALL Non-Amazon Links will be deleted from this list!

  1. I really like the quote. Also, I am posting an article in April about writing a Haiku. So, that also caught my attention. Thank you so much for this link up.
    Have a fabulous day.

How cool that you are writing about Haiku in April, Pamela – don’t you love it when great minds think alike? (smile)
I’ve seen book spine poetry before but never one specifically for Haiku so thought that would be a fun little twist!
Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to share your Haiku article with us when it posts!

  2. I think I read based on what my current mood or interests dictate rather than being influenced much by the seasons. Of course, I live in Florida! Thanks for hosting & God bless!

      says:

I often read based on my mood but I sometimes think my mood is influenced by the month and the seasons.
Of course, when you live someplace less prone to seasonal fluctuations it may make less of a difference! 🙂

  3. Julie S. says:

I don’t think my reading changes by season, but maybe more by what else is going on and my general mood.

  4. I love the quote. Thank you for hosting.

  5. Annie Kate says:

I don’t think my reading depends much on the seasons, more on what is being published since I review for different publishers.

I can’t find the ‘like’ button on your Amazon reviews, and I do like some of them. Do you know what is going on there?

    • Create With Joy
      Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
      says:

      Hi Annie Kate,

Yes, if you read solely for review your reading choices are more limited, but depending on who you review for, it’s still possible to find a wide variety of books (and to complement those selections by entering other blogger’s giveaways!)

I’m so glad you like my reviews! Here’s the info for everyone in case others have the same question:

There isn’t a true “Like” button on Amazon.
When you click on my profile, you’ll see a page with my reviews and excerpts.
Pick the review you want and click Read More to see the full review.
When the full review pulls up, click on the Comment button.
When that opens up, there will be a question that asks, Was This Review Helpful To You?
Clicking YES is equivalent to Liking the review!

Let me know if this works or if you have any additional questions! 🙂

      • Annie Kate says:

Thanks for this info about Amazon.

And, no, I do not read solely for review…but I end up reviewing most of the things I read, if only for myself. I suppose I’m a compulsive reviewer. LOL

That being said, there are always so many good new review books offered that I tend to read mostly those.

  6. Oh I love the book haiku idea! I’ll have to take a look at my shelves and see what I can come up with lol.

Really appreciate the amazon review support, Ramona – ThankYou!

I like to choose reading to match according to the month or season I’m currently living. Seems a fun connxn for me and maybe a bit of challenge to find the books [other than Christmas, Easter] I suppose 🙂
But reading for review adds another layer to my reading choices which will slow down for summer and some self care!

    • Create With Joy
      Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
      says:

Glad to hear you are going to slow down for summer and tend to you – trying to figure out how to do that myself! 🙂
Seasonal reading can be fun – sort of a thematic challenge of its own!

  9. Kate says:

Such a clever idea to do book title haiku! Love it! Visiting from Literacy Musing Mondays .. enjoy your week!

  10. I read mostly non-fiction (how to’s , bios) but I also love a good murder mystery. I/m glad I found your blog. I look forward to following you.

  11. Thank you for the link-up opportunity! Looking forward to the future emails from you!

  12. Ambika S says:

After reading your post about seasonal reading, I rewinded my choices of books over a period of time. It looks like it matches your criteria. (Not only reading, my taste for food, dressing and a lot changes with seasons it seems.). Thank you for hosting.

So nice to meet you Amika – I am going to have fun exploring your blog!
So nice to hear that I’m not the only one whose reading choices are influenced, in part, by the seasons.
Have a wonderful weekend and visit us often! 🙂

  13. Thanks for hosting 🙂

  14. Alena Belleque says:

Well, this is my first Book Nook with you, and I’m excited I found you! The books I read can sometimes be of a more difficult subject matter, so I won’t always be able to link up (for instance, Our Endless Numbered Days is my most recent review, and while it was intense and a good read, it’s not appropriate for younger readers). But I’ll try!

    What’s new…

Well, I finally launched a book and entertainment blog, and I’m thrilled!! Still have work to do to get it running smoothly, but it’s coming along.
