Gather Around The Amish Table by Lucy Leid – Book Review

Gather Around The Amish Table

Gather Around The Amish Table – Book Review

Once upon a time, I lived near Lancaster, Pennsylvania – home of Pennsylvania Dutch Country and America’s oldest Amish settlement. I have many wonderful memories of my visits through the Pennsylvania Amish countryside, but some of my fondest memories of my trips revolve around the food!

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to experience Amish cooking, you know that Amish cuisine is good – hearty – satisfying. Each recipe is passed down from generation to generation. Every recipe is made at home with love.

That’s why I’m excited by the opportunity to bring authentic Amish recipes into my home, thanks to Lucy Leid, the author of Gather Around The Amish Table – Treasure Recipes And Stories From Plain Communities.

In Gather Around The Amish Table, Amish and Mennonite families share their favorite recipes, along with the stories behind them. The recipes that are photographed will make your mouth water. The remaining recipes will cause your imagination to soar!

The book contains 10 categories of recipes and already, several delectable recipes have caught my eye:

  • Apple Raisin Bake
  • Chicken Corn Noodle Soup
  • Sausage, Corn, and Potato Pie
  • Best-Ever Shoofly Pie
  • Grape Tarts
  • Butterscotch Tapioca

What surprised me most about this cookbook is how easy-to-read and easy-to-make these recipes are!

Some books are written for foodies. Gather Around The Amish Table is written for real people who want to create delicious meals for their families.

If you like good, home-style cooking, you will love this book!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Yes, isn’t Amish food good? What surprised me most about this book, though, was how EASY to make most of the recipes are! For some reason, I thought they would be more complex…

Anyway, hope you can give this one a try – you won’t be disappointed! 🙂

Sounds like a neat book. I enjoy learning about the Amish ways, particularly because of their idea of slow living. We could learn much from them!
