Inspector Dewey by Kristen Heimerl – Book Review & Giveaway

Inspector Dewey

Inspector Dewey – Book Review

Are you ready to fall in love with one of the most memorable cats to grace the pages of children’s fiction in 2015?

Meet Inspector Dewey – one of Kristen Heimerl’s three Norweigan Forest cats – and the name of this first-time author’s brand new children’s book that features the charming illustrations of Irene Bofill!

Inspector Dewey is a large, 11 x 11 book that’s based on a true story! Kristen weaves an enthralling tale about what happens when a no good hooligan shows up on Hampshire Avenue – at the home of Dewey, Thumper, Lily and their human, Anna – and Dewey saves the day!

Why does this responsibility fall on the shoulders of Dewey? In the words of Dewey himself:

I am the Big Cat –
Responsible for keeping everyone safe and in order.
I do this quite well,
In spite of the fact that managing my family is like,
Well, herding cats!

Dewey is a natural born watch cat. Nothing escapes his investigation! As much as he loves to play and to swipe Q-tips from Anna’s stash, he takes his job as the self-appointed Neighborhood Watch Cat very seriously!

In this story, you’ll learn how Dewey’s powers of observation and prowess earned him the name Inspector Dewey and the title The Hero Of Hampshire!

Inspector Dewey is a delight to read (especially aloud)! The story is fresh and exciting – the language is colorful – the illustrations are lovely!

This is a wonderful gift for a child – but a particularly precious gift for a cat lover!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!

NOTE: Kristen is donating fifty percent of the profits from the sale of this book to fund veterinary care for pets whose families are in financial need, so that the animals can remain in their homes and out of the shelter system – *BECAUSE PETS BELONG WITH THEIR PEOPLE. If you’re looking for a great gift to give this season – I encourage you to support this author!

Kristen revels in bringing compelling products and services to life and helping leaders and individuals with big dreams realize their big goals.

Creating Inspector Dewey has been among Kristen’s greatest life joys! This book – which is based on a true story – unites her passion for writing, innovation, entrepreneurship, discovering new talent, design, leadership, strategy, marketing, animals, speaking, education, literacy, and philanthropy.

Kristen says:

This book is meaningful to me in so many ways – not least of which is the opportunity to influence a new generation of readers and learners. I was the ‘stupid kid’ –younger than my peers, slower to develop, and awkwardly shy. But picture books transformed my life – they showed me the beauty of illustration and the power of language. My early books set the foundation for a love of reading and a life of learning.

Kristen holds a master of science in eCommerce from Carnegie Mellon University, an MBA from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, and a BA from the University of St. Thomas.

Aside from Kristen’s 2+ year obsession with creating the most beautiful picture book possible, her joys include the breathtaking forests and lakes of her Minnesota birthplace, the family that really does love her no matter what, and her three magnificent Norwegian Forest Cats who together, with Kristen, helped catch the bad guy on their block that inspired the book.

  1. I have cute kitty radar like no other–I swear! The first time I visited your site, it was love at first site. I fell in love with Magellan instantly. What is it about giant, fluffy furbabies? Melt. Dewey is quite fond of doing interviews so, in the future, if Magellan the Roving Correspondent ever wants to do one, I’m sure I could arrange it with the Dewster. The funny thing about this whole book experience is that I’m as enthralled as you–it’s simply such an honor to have the opportunity to share my kitties and my beloved book with you. I pinch myself with gratitude every morning. To you, Magellan and all the beautiful books and kitties everywhere.

      Dear Kirsten,

You and your delightful family of Norwegian Forest Cats are truly Kindred Spirits to us here at Create With Joy, and it is with great pleasure and delight that I share your wonderful book with my readers!

Inspector Dewey is a cat after Magellan’s own heart! They are SO much alike in personality based on the book – which made the reading of the story twice as much fun for me!

Thank you for your wonderful offer – when life calms down a bit I may take you up on it! 🙂

If your travels ever bring you to SoCal, let me know!

It’s so sweet of the author to bless people by helping them provide medical care for their pets. Animals are such a source of cheer to so many. Need should not keep people away from the animals they love!

I would like to win because the book sounds awesome!! And most recently we took in a dog thinking we were helping out a friend. Come to find out the dog had not seen a vet in over 2 years, AND the poor thing’s teeth were rotting out. Almost $450 later, we realized we actually rescued her, and we didn’t really have the money to cover the fee. It would be great to also win the $$ to help another pet in need.

  11. Bethany says:

I think my guinea pigs would really enjoy this book. Okay, maybe not, but I would like reading it. : )
