Magellan’s New Toys
Mom says they were SUPPOSED to be a surprise!
If you are the parent of a curious child, I’m sure you know how difficult it is to try to surprise them on birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. They seem to have a knack for knowing when you’re planning a surprise or when there’s a gift in the house. Then, there sole mission in life becomes spoiling the surprise that you worked so hard to plan!
The same holds for those of us who are parents to pampered pets. It is just about impossible to keep anything under wraps from the watchful eyes of a curious cat!
Just ask Magellan.
Of course, I found them before I was supposed to. What can I say? I’m notice EVERYTHING that goes on in my home!
Magellan turns 2 this week and I thought it would be nice to surprise him with a few new toys that I recently received from Chewy.com! I thought that while he and Tsunami were out getting pampered at the local grooming salon, I would set up a play palace for him in the living room.
Of course, the surprise was on me when he came home early and discovered his goodie stash before I had the chance to set them out. As you can see, he couldn’t wait to check them out! He read the labels on each toy very thoroughly and – before long – Tsunami showed up to help test them out!
Look Mom – A Sled!
Magellan’s favorite toy was the Catit Bench Scratcher With Catnip. He couldn’t get enough of this toy! He sniffed it – scratched it – sat on it – played with it – rolled on it – laid on it – and did just about anything you could think to do with this toy!
The Catit Bench Scratcher withstands my Claws Of Steel!
Even though he is longer than this toy, he loved the unique shape of it, and did his best to fold his body up to fit into the bench! This was rather amusing to watch – sort of like a woman trying to squeeze into a pair of jeans that’s a tad too tight!

As you can see, Magellan loved the Catit Bench Scratcher and considered it an absolute winner in his book!
The Kong Active Play Mat required a little more creativity for our cats to play with it. Although neither cat uses it for scratching, Tsunami likes laying on it from time to time – even though he’s way too large for the mat!
Magellan dutifully checked out the Kong Active Play Mat – but the photos clearly show which toy he loved the most!
However, the Kong Active Play Mat makes a great crinkly sound and – it I stand it up as a tunnel and run chase toys through it – Magellan loves to pounce on it to attack his prey! I think a kitten or a small cat would enjoy this toy very much!

You have a good eye! We just weighed him and he has put on another pound – is slowly starting to fill out a bit!
I can see that Magellan is aww stuck by the Catit scratch pad, our Sabrina has one but does not get as excited as he is with it.

So glad your kitties like it too! You never know with cats – I always spend a fortune at the pet store, only to have Magellan chase down the strips off of my padded envelopes most days! 🙂

I have to watch my cats Mary – Magellan likes to eat paper too – when I open packages, he loves to hunt and eat the shreds of the envelopes (have caught him choking on them before so be really careful about that paper-munching habit!) – and Tsunami likes to chew on plastic bags – which I used to think was really strange but which I now wonder if this is his way of trying to clean his teeth?

We have something similar to the cat bench scratcher. My girls absolutely love it.
Magellan – you sure are handsome. You very lucky your human wants to spoil you with lots of toys for your birthday.
My cat’s favorite toy is a piece of paper tied to a string. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but for some reason he is very excited about it.
That’s the great thing about cats – they appreciate the simple things in life!
