Whitney Miller’s New Southern Table – Book Review

I have been a fan of Southern cooking my entire life and a fan of MasterChef since the show debuted in 2010. So, imagine my excitement when I learned that Whitney Miller – the first and youngest winner of MasterChef to date – has a new cookbook coming out!

Whitney Miller’s New Southern Table officially releases on November 3, 2015 but I just got my copy and I can’t wait to give you a first glimpse inside of this book!

My first impression?

What makes Whitney’s brand of Southern cooking unique is the modern twist she brings to the kitchen. For example, Whitney often explores her family roots by revisiting her favorite family recipes and preserving traditional family flavors – but then, she makes the recipe her own by adding her own special touches.

Whitney is also fond of showing us how to lighten classic dishes without losing flavor. She loves to experiment with different Southern ingredients and to explore new techniques and cooking methods.

Whitney’s book isn’t just a collection of recipes from her family’s past, however – it’s also a reflection of her own unique culinary influences. In Whitney Miller’s New Southern Table, Whitney re-imagines Southern by introducing us to a number of new recipes that she creates by incorporating Southern ingredients into multi-cultural dishes she encountered during her travels around the world.

No matter what type of dish Whitney is sharing – classic or modern Southern cuisine – you’ll appreciate the personal stories, the beautiful plating and photographs, and the easy-to-follow instructions she provides.

About Whitney Miller

Whitney Miller

America’s first MasterChef winner, Whitney Miller, grew up surrounded by food, faith and family. One of the greatest influences in her life is her 96-year old grandmother, who still cooks to this day. She learned much from her great-grandmother about Southern hospitality and learned to be a great cook at an early age. Because of her talent with desserts, she was deemed the “Pastry Princess” on MasterChef.

Since winning the show, Whitney has travelled across the United States and around the world conducting cooking demonstrations with other celebrity chefs, acting as a celebrity judge for numerous cooking contests, and inspiring others through motivational speaking.

Whitney’s cooking style encompasses using fresh ingredients and putting her own modern twist on Southern classics. Her recipes have appeared in national publications such as People, Cooking Light, Spirit Of Women, and MasterChef magazine.

The cookbook looks great and she looks like a caring, down-to-earth young woman. I don’t follow MasterChef, so I didn’t know much about Miller until I watched the video you included. Wow! I love her personality. I’ll have to look for her books.

Living in the south, I love Southern cooking…but I know that it can also be a bit…unhealthy. I’m just thinking of Paula Dean and all that butter! LOL! This sounds like a great one and I love when cookbook writers add in personality to each recipe/book.
