Green Smoothies by Fern Green – Book Review

Are you interested in improving your health? Have you heard that juicing is good for you but aren’t sure where to start? Are you interested in making healthy smoothies – that is, smoothies that contain fruits and vegetables but leave out the not-so-healthy ingredients that sometimes manage to find their way into so many smoothie recipes?

If so, Green Smoothies – Recipes for Smoothies, Juices, Nut Milks, and Tonics to Detox, Lose Weight, and Promote Whole-Body Health is a must for your kitchen library!

Green Smoothies contains 66 recipes for juices, smoothies, shots and milks and a 7-day green juice detox plan that is perfect for beginners!

This book is easy-to-use and beautifully laid out. The Introductory Sections contain information on the differences between juices and smoothies – the benefits of drinking them – the equipment you’ll need to get started – and information on some of the ingredients you’ll be using.

Green Smoothies - A Peek Inside

The Recipe section is divided by type. Each recipe is photographed and spread across two pages. On the left page you’ll find a photo and list of the Ingredients you need along with the Instructions for making the recipe. On the right you’ll find a photo of the drink along with the health benefits it provides.

I love the way that Green Smoothies is laid out because you can easily see at a glance what you have in your refrigerator – what you need to purchase – and what you want to make based on the health benefits you wish to derive!

Another thing I like about Green Smoothies is that the author offers a few helpful tips for those new to the world of juicing and smoothies, including don’t go on a detox without doctor supervision if you are under sixteen, pregnant, breast-feeding, on prescription medicines, of have pre-existing health conditions.

She also mentions that if you are starting out, you may find it easier to start with the fruit-based smoothies and work your way into the vegetable-based juices from a taste perspective as you may need time to adjust to the decrease of sugar in your diet.

Green Smoothies is an invaluable reference book that opens up the world of healthy smoothies and juices to anyone with a blender.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
