How To Groom Like A Cat!

Now that Spring has arrived and bathing suit season is just around the corner, it’s time to put our best paws forward and get in shape so that we will look and feel our best this season!

To that end, I asked Tsunami and Magellan if they would mind turning today’s column over to a style and fashion icon who knows a thing or two about looking awesome and would be willing to share some tips with us.

Always the gracious hosts, they willingly agreed – so once again, let’s welcome Morris, the original Celebrity Cat, to Create With Joy!

Grooming Tips From Morris The Cat

You Can Look This Good

Morris is the cat we all grew up with! Originally starring in over 50 commercials, Morris now is the online star of the Live Well & Prospurr campaign, where he’s currently raising food for cats at the ASPCA – hosting a fabulous spa giveaway you won’t want to miss – and sharing tips like these to help you look and feel your best!

And now – let’s turn things over to Morris!

Thank you dear friends for inviting me back to Create With Joy! I hear that you’d like to look as good as me? I love your lofty aspirations! I frequently get fan mail asking for tips on how I always look so purr-fect and here are a few tips I’d like to share:

Tip 1: Don’t Be Afraid Of A Little Fur!

Lint Rollers

When your cats shed on you, don’t wail – thank them for helping you to look more like a cat! People pay good money for the privilege of dressing up like cats at Halloween. Your cat is adopting you into the cat kingdom for free!

However – if you insist on walking around in your human skin and fur-less clothing, try to wear clothes that are the same color as your cat to help camouflage the fur! Brush up on your cat grooming skills (if you brush your cats regularly, there will be less fur for them to shed!)! Brush up on your house-cleaning skills (no need to elaborate there!) – and always have a lint brush on hand to remove excess fur from your clothes!

Tip 2: Don’t Be Afraid To Primp And Preen!

All Cats Are Beautiful

I know you’ll find this hard to believe, but do you know that it takes a lot of work to look this beautiful – even for us cats? I spend up to 50% of my waking hours grooming – not only because it makes me look good, but because it makes me feel good too! Sometimes it’s relaxing and meditative! So, spend as much time as you need in front of the mirror! Your grooming habits are a purr-sonal choice!

Tip 3: Do Whatever It Takes To Manage Your Stress!

Fresh Laundry

Create a daily routine. Get enough sleep. Get and give a massage! When I lose sleep – for example, when I only get 15 hours of sleep a day instead of my normal 16 hours of sleep because I’m shooting a commercial – a kitty massage soothes my stress away! Trust me – nothing is more relaxing than loving or receiving love from the cats in your life!

Thanks, Morris, for the great advice you’ve shared! For more tips from Morris, our Grooming Expert, be sure to visit ProsPurr!

My biggest grooming challenge is catching my cat to groom him. When he sees the grooming brush, he takes off and I literally chase him and when I get him, hold him down while I groom. He lets me do it once we start but it’s always a struggle at the beginning.

What is your biggest cat grooming challenge? Share your thoughts and stories in the comments and be sure to include your CURRENT e-mail and your location so that we can reach you if you win!

White cat hair (from Arya) on dark clothes. For years, it was pure bliss. Alice is black, so I NEVER had hair on my clothes (at least, that you could see. lol). That all came to an end when Arya came on the scene. Of course, I wouldn’t trade her. I can put up with the hair. As a former owner of five cats, I’ve had my share of cat hair issues. 😉

The kitty with the lint rollers looks just like Casey, one of my cats from years ago. Beautiful!

  39. luvluvluv the photos and tips, count me in on the give away!

  40. Emily Benzing says:

One of my cats, Stormy, is long haired so that’s a big issue with grooming. But he does like to be brushed so that’s good! My other cat, Jimmy, he really doesn’t like being brushed he kind of just goes after it with his mouth lol. They are both black haired so that’s an issue too!!

  41. Jessica N says:

Charlie makes me run around in circles while grooming!

  42. Adrian G says:

I had to laugh when I saw the big fluffy cat and the lint brush. My cat Yeti – i’m amazed he is not totally BALD by now. He sheds like there is no tomorrow and he loves to lie on clean laundry or sneak into the linen closet. Little stinker!

  43. Paula Kiger says:

Cat grooming challenge? Hmmm…..ours aren’t long hairs but we STILL find hair everywhere — and it creates digestive issues for our siamese when she grooms herself. Cats. Love them but holy wow they can create a hairy situation!

    • Create With Joy
      Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
      says:

It is amazing just how much hair our short hair kitties can generate!
I’ve had short hair cats before and I can attest to the fact that some of them shed just as profusely as their long-hair brethern!
I guess it just depends on the cat!

  44. These are too cute! My kitty loves clean laundry also! Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday! Hope to see you link up again this week 🙂

  45. GB says:

my biggest challenge is managing the hair once it starts coming out. Static always comes into play and next thing I know hair is everywhere.

  46. The Dash Kitten Crew says:

Halpy Sunday Selfie from us in New Zealand!!

  47. Lots of cuteness. Love Morris’s blue tie!
