You’re Not Brushing My Teeth!
VetriScience Perio Plus Feline Bites Review

Did you know that dental health is just as important to your pets as is to humans? Performing preventative care and getting your cat’s teeth and gums checked and cleaned at the vet’s should be a regular part of their annual check-up!

However, my cats are not particularly cooperative when it comes to allowing me to perform any type of oral hygiene on them!

My cats do not allow me to brush their teeth (yes, there is special non-fluoride toothpaste you can buy that is safe for your cat!)

They don’t allow me to wrap gauze around my fingers to clean their teeth and gums (I tried this when they were kittens – it almost cost us our friendship!)

My cats are like me – dental-phobes. Unless you are bringing them food, they don’t want you anywhere near their mouths!

Magellan Meets The Dental Chews

That’s why I thought that VetriScience Perio Plus Everyday Health Feline Bites Dental Cat Treats from Chewy.com might be the perfect solution for my cat’s oral needs!

Each 4.23 ounce bag contains 60 chews with an outer layer to promote dental cleansing and plaque control and an inner core to support overall health and gum tissue integrity. The product helps maintain clean teeth and fresh breath.

Sounds good, right?

Of course, you still have to get your cats to eat the treats!

Magellan Investigates

Things started out good. I called Magellan and my ever-curious cat excitedly came bounding into the kitchen.

I poured out a few treats for him to try.

He picked one up – put it in his sweet little kitty mouth – then, promptly spat it out!

(Some cats are like kids. It’s hard to trick them into caring for their health!

I tried to coax him to give the treats another try, but he wasn’t in the mood. Magellan promptly went to his food bowl – grabbed a mouthful of food to cleanse his palate – and high-tailed it out of the kitchen, leaving a drool trail behind on hastily discarded reject.

Does Not Pass Muster

Poor parents. If he won’t brush his teeth or eat his dental treats – however will we get him to floss?

I called Tsunami.

Tsunami refused to come to the table so I ended up taking a treat to him (where he mercilessly made his poor, feverish mom squat down to the floor to hand feed him!) He rewarded me by eating his dental treat – then allowed me to coax him to the kitchen table to check the remaining treats out – but ultimately turned to his dinner plate as well.

I decided to leave the remaining treats on a plate overnight to see if they would disappear.

They did – which means one or both of the cats ultimately ate them! I’ll have to offer them more treats later to see who my cooperative kitties are!

Perio Plus Feline Bites

The bottom line is, products like VetriScience Perio Plus Everyday Health Feline Bites Dental Cat Treats from Chewy.com are great for cats who won’t let you go anywhere near their mouths with a toothbrush – but first, you have to coax your cats into giving them a try!

One Additional Note: Because these dental treats are so large, you may want to cut the treat in half before giving it to your cat to make it easier for them to ingest!

    Hi RAmona,

The doctor had to change plans during surgery and do the more extensive, longer recovery version. Sigh. But at least I can start healing, right?

    Have a great week!

Oh the finicky kitties sometimes, our Digger has got his dad trained to give treats on demand. Not a good thing, but then he is spoiled.

Happy Wednesday and St Patrick’s Day!

When I posted my sign for some reason I thought of Magellan… hehehe! Have a fabulous week and by the way I brush Baby teeth sometimes too, but I have to chase her down… hahahaha

  9. It happens! I know if I got a pet product to review the results would be equally confusing. I put down some things and it’s ‘Meh’ BUT as with your two funnily enough its gone the next day!

Hmmmmm? Well done Chewy in providing something that can actually do good for a pet’s teeth.

  11. Camille says:

My dogs don’t allow me to brush their teeth either. They wiggle and act like I’m trying to murder them, lol. We get them dental bones. I wonder Vetri Science makes a dental treat for dogs.

  12. Bee says:

I’ll keep that in mind for when we get a cat 🙂

  13. Robin says:

VetriScience makes some great products! My kitties haven’t tried the dental chews, but they have tried the Composure treats. Those work wonders for my anxiety ridden kitty. We will have to try these dental chews some time too!

It appears that Tsunami is eating the dental treats (yeah!) but Magellan is still being a stubborn boy!
