With God all things are possible. – Matthew 19:26
In the Western World, particularly in the United States, we are blessed with an abundance of Bibles.
Most of us have the ability to read God’s Word, any time of day or night, in the translation of our choice. We can delve into Scripture by reading traditional print Bibles. We can compare and research passages with lightning speed on our computers, laptops, and other electronic devices. We can access our Bibles anywhere we go through the convenience of our smartphone apps!
That’s why it’s often easy for us to forget that in other parts of the world, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ lack even a basic Bible to call their own.
Since 1900, the church in Africa has experienced incredible exponential growth. Today, there are over 400 million Protestant Christians in Africa, yet over 200 million African Christians don’t own a Bible, and millions of leaders lack basic written materials to equip their ministries.
Where Bibles do exist, they are written exclusively from a Western perspective, which makes it extremely difficult for most Africans to understand them or relate the stories to the context of their everyday lives.
That’s why I’m excited to share that Oasis International has teamed up with Tyndale House Publishers to create the Africa Study Bible – and, they’re inviting us to partner with them to help bring this project to fruition!
The Africa Study Bible fulfills the critical need that African Christians have for a Bible that is scripturally sound, easy to comprehend and culturally relevant.
The Africa Study Bible is a biblical treasure trove that features the complete text of Tyndale’s popular and easy-to-read New Living Translation, plus more than 2400 editorial features from a diverse group of African theologians and pastors from 40 African countries and over 50 denominations.
The Bible’s editorial features include application notes, stories and proverbs – touch-points that link Africa and the Bible – learning notes that explain basic theology – and major theme articles that apply the Bible to key issues.
Initially, Oasis plans to release the African Study Bible in English, with plans for French and Portuguese translations in development. Oasis is also developing a full-featured app of the study Bible.
As a member of the Africa Study Bible Launch Team, I’ve had the privilege of previewing this Bible and have been blessed immensely by all that I’ve seen to date. Simply put, the Africa Study Bible is an amazing resource that will greatly bless and enrich the spiritual lives of African Christians!
Through June 16, 2016, Oasis International and Tyndale House Publishing have launched a Kickstarter Campaign to raise one million dollars to print the first 100,000 study Bibles for Africa.
Many preeminent Christian organizations, including Campus Crusade For Christ International, Moody Broadcasting, Willow Creek and the Association of Evangelicals in Africa, have already lent their support to this project.
Won’t you consider lending your support to this project, too?

I love this campaign, but I wish the description was more careful to clarify that it is the “study” portions and not the Bible itself that tends to be written from a Western perspective and needs to be more culturally relevant. Nevertheless, I will check out the Kickstarter campaign and pray about being a part of it! Thanks for sharing with us at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com this week!

Great point Tina – thanks for your insight! 🙂
What a cool idea! As a former missionary to Asia, I am keenly aware of the Bible shortages faced by many. I’m pausing for a moment to pray this Bible gets in the hands of those who desperately need it and praise God for the availability of His Word to so many in the West.
