Celebrate Our Pets

Who do you spend the most time with at home? Chances are, if you live with a cat or a dog, these faithful friends and companions are constantly by your side!

My cats are always nearby, watching my every move. When he isn’t by my side, Magellan loves to perch on high places like the refrigerator so he can see everything that I do!

Every day, I delight in the many unique things my cats do that bring joy to my life.

Did you know that along with flowers, May brings with it two significant occasions for us to celebrate our pets?

First, the American Humane Association – our country’s first humane organization, and the only one dedicated to protecting both children and animals – celebrates Be Kind To Animals Week from May 1 through May 7. As part of this year’s campaign, the American Humane Association is challenging one million people to take the Kindness 100 Pledge. Won’t you consider becoming part of their compassionate movement?

Second, the first week of May is also National Pet Week! The American Veterinary Medical Association invites you to visit the Pet Week website to learn you can help provide your pet with the happiests, healthiest life possible.

As a mom who is owned by two bodacious Maine Coon Cats, I thought I’d share the following five feline facts for fun, which I found on the Pet Week website!

  • There are 10 million more cats owned in America than dogs!
  • Cats are less than half as likely to be seen by a veterinarian and receive healthcare.
  • There are “cat-friendly” practices that focus on making trips to the veterinarian less stressful for your cat.
  • Cats CAN be trained.
  • Maine, Vermont, Oregon, Idaho and Washington have the highest percentage of cat-owning households.

Mom just received a copy of the Chicken Soup book for cats and is looking forward to reading it. She says that she feels like she is up to her eyeballs in cats all the time. Some cat is always in her lap, and each of us is good and bad depending on the day and the situation. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

Good Morning ol’ friend! And how are you doing this morning? Sunshine and blue skies always makes me feel good and puts a smile on my face this morning even though I woke up with an angry back. It was really ticked off at me this morning. I let my pain killers go to long last month and I ran out of them four days before the refill so I just had to grin and bare it. OUCH!!! If you stop by you’ll see my latest dark cloud item that’s been following me for about a month. Our furnace decided to go belly up on us, and added another monthly bill to our budget. Ohhh worra worra!!! But at least we’ll know we are going to be warm this winter coming up. HUGS! And have a wonderful day!

  17. Thank you for hosting this. I’ve added my beloved Mr. M and his silvervine twig (#48), but he’ll never be as regal as Magellan. Hope you have a wonderful week.

  18. Those are some good reads. Thanks for the link up!

  19. Robin says:

Cats make the best of friends! My Cinco was definitely glued to me every second he could be. Manna is not quite as clingy, but she loves to be around me all the time too.

  20. lovely photo!
Thanks for all the pet information!
My black and white rescue cat Oliver is VERY good–especially now that he is 14½!

  21. Mum says it is Pet Day every dayhere!! BUT she would be hapy to take Magellan on as a guest any day 🙂

Thanks for showcasing these important events for animals. They certainly deserve to be celebrated.

I received the 9 Lives prize pack. Mom’s kitty, Emma, wanted me to thank you for the canned food. It is the only kind she will eat. Mom has to feed Emma thyroid medicine twice a day and she puts it in her canned food. Arya LOVES the little fish catnip toy. Her new favorite. Thanks again for the wonderful prize!
