Look Mom, No Hands!
When you live with cats, you should never be surprised by anything that they do. They continuously amaze you with their antics. Just when you think you have their routines pegged, they go and change them up on you.
They like to keep you on your toes.
Every now and then, I’ve had a Maine Coon Cat who’s had the acrobat gene in his DNA. First, there was Goliath, who loved to run around the tops of my basement pipes. Then there was Adonis, who loved to walk across the half-inch rails of a former home.
And now there’s Magellan…
Magellan has that same daredevil balance gene in him that he likes to stretch whenever he has the opportunity, but he finds opportunities to do so in his current environment somewhat limited. Of course, when you live with an intelligent and enterprising cat, you learn to expect the unexpected.
So, for the past few days, Magellan has been practicing his jumping and perching skills in unexpected places, like the top of my KitchenAid mixer! (I wonder if, when they quality test those very expensive devices in their labs, they test those beautiful colorful finishes we pay so much money for to ensure that our cats don’t scratch them to pieces!)
Of course, things don’t always go as perfectly as one plans. Thanks to a rather disastrous attempt to land on a very high perch (on which an apparently hidden-from-sight clock radio sat) – we are now the still-in-shock owners of a brand new alarm clock!

Oh My Gosh, Magellan is very tricky, with paws that dont cling that is a really slippery surface. Lol, they will do anything to give us a heart attack.

Jan still remembers when a previous kitty took a flying leap and her windup alarm went flying and crashed into lots of pieces.

I have a 8 year cat that will climb the door frame to get on top of the grandfather clock.
Is your cat a climber? Does he perch on top of doors? or go on the roof? Mine didn’t. In fact, he rarely went in trees. I almost always saw him on the ground.
Everyday is a new adventure with eight firkins. As Mom always says, “Cats are predictably unpredictable,” and that’s a motto we like to live by.
