Welcome To Wordless Wednesday At Create With Joy!
The Sentries
Every 4th of July, before our family heads out to view the fireworks, we do everything that we can to make the evening as stress-free as possible for Magellan and Tsunami.
We close all of the windows to minimize the noise.
We turn on soothing music to help drown out the sounds.
We make sure they have access to all of their favorite safe spots.
Because we are located so close to the location where the firework display occurs, there is non-stop revelry and extremely loud and scary noises every year at our house on the 4th – noises that are impossible to totally eliminate.
In years past, the firework noise has caused our cats to be on edge for extended periods of time. It usually takes a day or two for things to return to normal in their world.
This year, instead of finding cats hunkered under beds or in mystery locations beyond my reach, imagine my surprise when I found Magellan and Tsunami standing guard outside of my office and bedroom doors!
These were the faces that greeted me as I climbed the stairs – faces that proudly proclaimed that through “the rocket’s red glare” and “the bombs bursting in air” – nothing was getting through those doors as long as they, my faithful sentries, were on duty!
I have never been so proud of my cats!

They were a wonderful sight to come home too Jeanna!
They don’t look too bothered. I would have never thought to turn on the background music to help drown out the noise. Must have worked. 🙂 Hope you had a great 4th.

I think soothing music helps calm their nerves, just as it helps calm ours!
The 4th rocked.
Be sure to check out the fireworks on my Instagram account! 🙂
What patriotic kitties! My kitty and puppy dislike the fireworks also. Thanks for sharing your awesome party with #OMHGWW. Hope you have a wonderful week 🙂

Yes – the 4th of July is by far the least favorite of all of their holidays –
Turkey day, of course, is their paws-down fave!
We are lucky – we live in a hilly fire zone with nice houses (that nobody wants to see burn down!), so there isn’t much firework activity in our immediate neighborhood, and the city displays are far enough away that the noise isn’t that bad. So we don’t get freaked out or hide for the holiday.

Lucky you Summer – we live right across from where the fireworks go off!
We only have fireworks when the years are changing, than Granny puts on the television on a higher level, to reduce the noise as much as we can. Soft music helps too, even bird tv, to distract me, helps 😀 We have seen your video, it’s pawsome!
Pawkisses for a wonderful ww 🙂 <3

So glad you liked the video – I was pleased by how it came out! 🙂
This is what I am thinking during fireworks too, my pets. So glad that you helped them cope with the noise.
Love the photos. Glad you kept them safe. Great idea.
Cute pictures as always. Oh those fireworks. I was not into them this year. We are in the country so it goes on for 3 nights and it likes beautiful fireworks display every way you look, but it gets old after 10:00 PM. My husband brought in a big fan so that I could sleep. I feel for your kitties.
Glad they did so well! Way to go, kitties!
Wow what brave kitties! I’ll have to check out your Instagram too -I love fireworks!

Wonderful photo! =)
Your sentries withstood the challenge of the noisy day. That deserves extra treats at least.

It’s always nice to come and see what you or I should say your cats have been up to. I see how Magellan and Tsunami would have “issues” with the fireworks, while we like to see them, we also try to stay somewhat away from them.
Happy to hear they did good.
Take Care!
Awww..glad they were not as frightened this year. I always feel bad that we leave Piper home to go see the fireworks…I don’t even know if he is freaked out or ok with them…
Awww that is great that they stayed calm through the noise,xx Speedy
Lovely picture, and a great entry for the Sunday selfies! Thank goodness you made it through the 4th celebrations, that is no small feat. purrs ERin
