Out Of The Embers by Amanda Cabot – Book Review
Do you need a break from the dystopian nightmare of COVID-19? Does a sojourn to the Wild, Wild West sound rather appealing right now? If so, why not journey back in time to the Texas Hill Country in the 1850s, the setting of best-selling novelist Amanda Cabot’s new Mesquite Series?
Book One in the series, Out Of The Embers, introduces us to Evelyn Radcliffe, a young girl who was orphaned a decade ago when her parents where murdered. Now, she and her friend Polly – the only survivors in a mysterious fire that have left the two orphans homeless – have sought shelter in the small town of Mesquite Springs. Wyatt Clark – the talented ranchman and avowed bachelor – takes them in. But what will happen when it becomes apparent that trouble has followed Evelyn to Mesquite Springs and that someone wants Evelyn to meet her Maker?
Out Of The Embers is filled with all of the elements that fans of Historical Romance, Westerns and Romantic Suspense will enjoy, including compelling characters with complicated back-stories that are masterfully woven into the present-day plot. I found myself eagerly turning the pages to find out how the stories of Evelyn and Wyatt would unfold and hoping that the improbable romance between the two of them would blossom.
Times like these call for a bit of escapism. If you’d like to time-travel to the past, then Out Of The Embers is a beautiful story to escape to!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
