Farewell, Sweet Tsunami – We Will Always Love You

Tsunami Day 1c - July 2007

We have been praying for healing for Tsunami for this past month and providing him with the best veterinary care possible, but this Monday, it became clear to us and the vet that in spite of the treatment he was receiving, he was not getting better. This vet believes that since he has not responded to treatment, a underlying, undiagnosed condition must be the cause – most likely cancer or kidney disease. At this point, even if we ran additional tests and administered additional treatment, it seemed unlikely that he would bounce back.

Tsunami Day 1b - July 2007

So, we brought him home and have spent the past week making him as comfortable as possible, cherishing our final moments with him, and praying for wisdom that we would know when it was time to say our goodbyes. That moment came just a little while ago and, through tears and heartbreak, we made one final drive to the vet so that he could leave us with dignity, grace and peace.

Tsunami Day 1 - July 2007

Tsunami was born on April 7, 2007 and joined our family in July 2007 at 14 weeks. Most of the photos I am sharing with you were taken on the first day that he came to live with us (the last one was taken at 11 weeks). For the past 13 years, he helped fill our home and our hearts with so much love and so many wonderful memories, it’s hard to imagine life without him. Even Magellan knows that life has shifted and he is feeling the loss.

Tsunami at 11 Weeks

One of the things that has brought me great joy over the years is knowing how much joy Tsunami has brought so many of you as well. Thank you for the love you’ve given Tsunami over the years. It’s amazing to live in a day and age where one sweet cat can impact so many lives.

  1. Sending hugs and purrs, because words mean so little right now.
    Farewell, Angel Tsunami.

  2. Patti says:

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Tsunami. Our 4-legged friends certainly grab hold of our hearts, and it is so sad when it is time to say goodbye. I truly hurt for you.

I have followed your blog off and on through the years—I tend to be up and down with blogging and take long breaks. I recently decided it was time to start blogging again, and I have started a brand new blog, Empty Nest Homemaker. Transitioning to the empty nest was exceedingly difficult for me, and I often felt alone. I would have loved to have found a blog geared to women who found those years agonizing. Alas, I never did, but, now, I have created one, so other women may find a kindred in me.

  3. Kitties Blue says:

Dear Ramona, I am so deeply sorry to hear that Tsunami received his wings and has left you. He was so handsome and much too young to go to the Bridge. Having lost Mauricio just a month ago, I know how sad you are and how you are grieving now and will be for a very long time to come. You will be in my heart and prayers. Many hugs, Janet

  4. I’m so sorry for the loss of your cat.

  5. Linda says:

I am sorry about Tsuanami. I still cry for my dog sometimes and it’s been two years.

  6. dorry lyn says:

I am sorry for your loss. Big hugs to you

  7. Catwoods says:

I’m so sorry to learn of the loss of your beautiful Tsunami. I know it’s very hard to lose a kitty. Hugs and purrs and peace going out to you.

  8. I haven’t visited in a while and reading this post, has me in tears for your loss. I am so sorry. I can only hope that your heart heals a little more with each passing day. We lost our beloved Dottie a year ago in August and I still think I catch sight of her upon entering a room.
