Oh The Red Viburmum In The Meadow – Patriotic Ukranian Song

SUPPORT UKRAINE [Free Badges]

Andriy Khlyvnyuk has garnered international attention as the lead singer of popular Ukranian band Boombox since 2004, but it’s the viral video of him singing a century-old patriotic Ukrainian song that may end up being his biggest claim to fame.

On February 24, 2022 – the day that Russia invaded Ukraine – Andriy was in the US on a nationwide concert tour with Boombox. Immediately, he cancelled the tour, flew to Ukraine to take up arms with his countrymen and defend Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

Three days later, a video of Andriy, dressed in fatigues with a rifle affixed to his body, surfaced from Kyiv. In the video, Andriy is singing a rousing acapella version of the 1914 Ukrainian song, The Red Viburnum In The Meadow, to inspire Ukranians and remind them of their history.

Now, that video is inspiring musicians around the world to come alongside Andriy and to partner with him as a way of raising funds for Ukraine.

The most notable partnership occurred a few days ago, on April 8, when Pink Floyd came out of a 28-year retirement to release Hey Hey, Rise Up with them.

My favorite versions to date, however, come from The Kiffness (a South African electronic artist who was featured at Inspire Me Monday 439) and a group of vocalists who powerfully amplify Andriy’s original video.

I hope you enjoy today’s videos. We #StandWithUkraine and are connecting with other bloggers who feel the same way at Mimi Writes. We invite you to join in as well!

Also, thanks to Ann at Zoolatry for the creation of such beautiful badges! The badge I displayed shows 4 individual badges she created for our personal use. Ann does not require you to attribute her talents if you use this or any of the individual badges –but I’m happy to do so because it is much deserved and much appreciated
