The Abide Bible Review – New English Translation (NET)

If you regularly read the Bible but feel that something is lacking during your quiet time with God, let me ask you this: when was the last time you engaged with Scripture?

Don’t worry if this question leaves you scratching your head: you’re not alone. Bible engagement consists of the ability to see the passage with fresh eyes each time you read it, contemplate the meaning of the passage and reflect on how to apply it to your life, and move into a deeper relationship with God Himself by praying, meditating and journaling God’s Word. These are skills you develop over time, with the proper tools and guidance.

That’s why I’m excited to introduce you to The Abide Bible, which was created through a partnership by Bible Gateway and the Taylor Center for Scripture Engagement to help you do just that!

The Abide Bible is designed to help you engage with the Bible, no matter what book or passage of the Old or New Testament you decide to read! What makes this Bible special is that throughout, you’ll find five color-coded features designed to help you engage with Scripture in a number of creative ways!

  • Praying Scripture: These prompts help you to pattern your prayers after Scripture and infuse God’s powerful Word into your prayer life.

  • Picture It: These prompts help bring Scripture to life for you as you imagine what it would be like to be a bystander or participant in the important events of Scripture.

  • Journal: Journaling God’s Word and listening to how the Lord is speaking to you is a powerful way to internalize God’s Word and experience the presence of God in your life!

  • Engage Through Art: Colorful photos of classic artwork is placed throughout the Bible to deepen your reflection on spiritual truths.

  • Contemplate: Four-step prompts are provided to help you read, meditate, pray and contemplate on God’s Word.

For those who are new to the concept of Bible Engagement, The Abide Bible offers insight into the reasons why we should read the Bible and the distinctions between Bible study, Bible engagement and the Spiritual Disciplines in the back of the book. For those who are interested in educational resources, you’ll find book introductions, color maps and a 365-day reading plan to enhance your study.

The Abide Bible comes in both the NKJV translation (my favorite tried and true study translation) and the NET (New English Translation), which is the perfect translation for immersing yourself into the story of God’s Word! There are also many beautiful bindings available for whichever translation you choose.

I reviewed the Brown Leathersoft Edition of The Abide Bible NET, which comes in a protective picturesque box that’s perfect for gift-giving and dust protection. I’m not sure of the font size, but The Abide Bible features one of Thomas Nelson’s exclusive, easy-to-read comfort print fonts and white pages with black lettering (the Feature headings are colorized but the words of Jesus are not).
