Amplified Journal The Word Bible – Review

Have you ever read the Bible, felt unclear about the meaning of a word or passage, and wished you had a Bible that could amplify the meaning of the text and make the confusing parts more understandable?

Well, friends, consider your wish granted! Zondervan recently released the Amplified Journal The Word Bible – a great addition to any serious Bible student’s collection of Bible resources!

The Amplified Bible translation is designed to enhance your understanding of Scripture by expanding key words within a passage to help you gain a fuller understanding of the words used in the original Greek and Hebrew languages. For those of you who are new to the Amplified Bible, here’s an example of how this translation works.

Amplified Journal The Word Bible - Spine

2 Timothy 1:7 in the NKJV (a traditional, word for word translation) reads as follows:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

This is fairly straightforward – but watch how the Amplified translation further aids in your understanding of the text:

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

The traditional translation packs a powerful punch yet the Amplified Bible helps you gain an even deeper understanding of the passage!

The new Amplified Journal The Word Bible from Zondervan comes in a brown textured Leathersoft cover in a protective slipcover. They’ve included an attractive design on the cover and the spine (which also identifies the Bible by name). For those of you who love going through all of the binding options but find it hard to choose your favorite cover, Zondervan made it easy by only publishing this one version of the Bible.

Amplified Journal The Word Bible - Interior

This is not a study Bible – you won’t find any study aids or notes inside – but if you’re looking for a spacious journaling Bible to record your thoughts in, this one is perfect! The two-column Bible includes a very generous 2-inch margin space around the passage so there is ample room for you to spend creative time with God in His Word. This Bible also lies nice and flat, regardless of where you open it, which makes writing in it pure joy!

The Bible is printed on cream paper, which many of you will love. Personally, I am team white paper all the way – for me, the contrast of the words on white paper make it easier to read – but I’ve heard others way that the cream color is softer and easier on their eyes so really, it is a matter of personal preference!

If you’re on the lookout for a new journaling Bible because you’ve filled up the pages of your previous Bibles, the Amplified Journal The Word Bible is worth your consideration.
