Lessons From The East by Bob Roberts Jr. – Review
Did you know that in America:
- We’re fighting to keep church attendance from declining, but in many parts of the world, church attendance is growing faster than the birth rate?
- Church leaders have vast resources such as technology, seminars, and organizational tools at their fingertips, but overseas, church leaders excel at building strong relationships?
- Many Christians take separation of church and state to such extremes that they rarely mention their faith outside the walls of church while overseas, believers are more apt to demonstrate their faith as they become salt and light in their homes, at work, and throughout their communities?
Have you ever wondered why the Christian faith is growing at explosive rates around the world – particularly in areas where believers are being persecuted – yet growth has stagnated in the United States?
If so, you’ll find Lessons From The East – Finding The Future Of Western Christianity In The Global Church by Bob Roberts Jr. a particularly enlightening book!
In Lessons From The East, Bob – a self-described “country boy from East Texas” – shares his transformation from a typical Southern Baptist pastor to a cross-cultural church planter and the lessons he’s learned along the way.
The book is engaging, easy to read and follow, and fascinating – full of great insights for anyone involved in ministry, particularly pastors, church planters and ministry leaders.
There are questions for engagement at the end of each chapter, which makes Lessons From The East a great book for small groups to share and study as well!
I highly recommend this book to you.
I rate this book series 5 out of 5 stars.

Very interesting. I think it is because a lot of churches are exclusive and not inclusive here in America. I can’t begin to tell you some of the negative things I have seen as a visitor to some churches.
It is funny but one positive church I go as a visitor is about 800 miles from in Las Vegas. It is a growing church and people and pastor are very inclusive to all.
I need to get this book and read it.
Sounds like a really nice read.
This looks fascinating! Thanks for sharing this at the Booknificent Thursday link-up on Mommynificent.com this week!
