Open-Door Living: Easy Ways To Share The Gift Of Hospitality

If you had to pick a book that you’ve read in the past year or two that has truly impacted your life, what would it be?

One book that immediately comes to my mind is Jen Schmidt’s Just Open The Door – a book that helped us to welcome more people into our homes by focusing on the true meaning of biblical hospitality!

So, I could not wait to get my hands on Jen’s follow-up – Open-Door Living: Easy Ways To Share The Gift Of Hospitality – and I’m excited to share that I’m enjoying it even more than the original!

Open Door 1

First things first: I was surprised to discover that Open-Door Living is not a traditional paperback like the original, that is full of dense text that you read from cover to cover. Instead, it is a gorgeous hardcover gift book full of beautiful full-color photos, artwork and inspirational sayings, as well as encouragement, inspiration, practical tips, creative ideas, recipes, DIY projects, and more – designed to help you create a welcoming atmosphere in your home!

There are several reasons I like this book:

First, it’s easy to read! Do you ever get so tired or so busy that as much as you want to read, your brain feels like it is on information overload? Open-Door Living cleverly gets past my mental fatigue by presenting the main points of the book in easily digestible chunks (and in pretty photos for the days when I just feel like I can’t even read!)

Second, they say a photo is worth a thousand words, and the photographs in this book is gorgeous! It encourages me to simplify, to beautify, and to focus on the essentials. By streamlining my life, it’s easier for me to focus on what matters most – the people I love and care about.

Finally, for those of us who want to turn entertaining into a big thing that we then get easily overwhelmed by, Open-Door Living provides everything we need to know in one place! I don’t have to dig through a dozen cookbooks and spend hours on the Internet looking for the perfect recipe – she’s provided suggestions for me to make here! Similarly, Jen’s provided creative yet simple ideas for beautifying my home.

Open Door Living 2

Open-Door Living is a beautiful gift book that helps us to focus on what’s really important when it comes to inviting and welcoming people into our homes. I’m smitten with this book – and if you have a heart for people, I think that you might just be too!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
