Last week, I shared that I have not been sleeping well.
I also revealed the reason for my insomnia.
A lot of you could relate!
From your stories, I learned that
Bed Hog Syndrome is a national epidemic.
I am still processing the comments!
This week, I thought I’d share a possible hypothesis
On how Bed Hog Syndrome starts.
When you first bring a kitten into your home,
It’s just like bringing home a newborn.
Your motherly instincts kick in.
You adore that kitten.
You’re protective of your little angel.
You don’t want to let your precious baby out of your sight!
Night rolls around.
You don’t want to leave something so tiny and helpless alone.
Your kitten doesn’t want to be left alone either…
So, you allow your sweet little baby into your bed.
At first, things are fine.
Your kitten snuggles in a little fur ball in a tiny corner of the bed.
You lie as still as can be,
So as not to disturb or crush your kitten during the night.
The next thing you know, your baby is growing up!
Soon a tiny tiger is tackling your toes and
Your ferocious mountain lion is climbing your legs!
But your leaping leopard is so precious,
You cannot resist his charms!
If this sounds familiar to you – beware!
That precious kitten that is causing you Toe Terror today
Will soon be tomorrow’s Bed Hog!
Look closely.
You can already see the Napoleanic gleam of
Victory in Tsunami’s eyes!
Who can relate to Bill Dana’s quote?
I had been told that the training procedure with cats was difficult.
It’s not. Mine had me trained in two days!
Have a fabulous time at this week’s party!
Wordless or Wordy – I look forward to your shares!

Tsunami’s Toe Terror to BedHog is probably the truest post I’ve ever read on line! Made me laugh out loud! Thanks for the Kitty Tip. Next time I get a cat, I’ll make sure she sleeps on my husband’s side of the bed! Thanks for hosting.

Thanks for your fabulous feedback – it brings me joy when my stories touch others so!
And your comment left me laughing – great tip too about getting the cat to sleep on the OTHER side of the bed! 🙂
I found your blog from Cyndi’s “Wordless/Wordy Wednesday” post, and so glad I did. I love the picture of your cat, so cute! And the way you describe cats coming home. We have two cats at home, and they literally rule the house…we like it that way, lol.

Oh boy, do I know that trick!
I am SO enjoying everyone’s stories!
Oh yes…. I sure do know about Bed Hog Syndrome and have written a book that discusses that very subject!! MOL… our newest baby, Kizmet, has already conquered our bed!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Now see, Deb, this is the purr-fect example of what I’m talking about!
Kizmet is such a charmer, you’re not only willing to offer him your bed,
but before you know it, he has you fluffing the pillows before he lies on them!
What is it with these little charmers in our lives?
GREAT collection of photos and articles you’ve got up on your blog! 🙂
That is just too funny! I can totally relate, too! The Hubster is a blanket hog and we have four dogs. Our teacup yorkie is my daughter’s dog and the one who can’t sleep alone. When she is on a trip or sleeping over at a friend’s house, Abbey has to sleep with us. And for a little tiny thing, she can sure take over a queen size bed!!
Thanks for hosting! Happy Wednesday!

You too Kristy, and thanks for sharing your story with us!
Maybe I ought to have a special party one day so we can all share and link up our tales of all of the bed hogs in our lives – lol!

My MiaBella sleeps on a boot box on the bench at the end of our bed. She adopted that box, so we just kept it there for her. LOL. She will occasionally come sleep next to me on the bed, but not often. If I wake up and see her there, she immediately goes back to her box until she thinks I am asleep again!

How cute!
When my husband is away, the cats will often post themselves as sentries at the foot of the bed and stand guard over me.
That is so endearing – it makes me feel loved and protective!
When he is home and I am resting, however, I guess they feel I should reward them for a job well done.
Legend likes me to watch over him while he sleeps –
and Tsunami, the Bed Hog, just wants the bed and my chair and now the entire sofa to himself!
Hello,
your story makes me smile and reminds me of my last cat, it’s really true what you told us. 🙂
Wish you a nice time

Thanks! I’m finally starting to get a little rest – but no thanks to the Bed Hogs – it’s more due to sheer exhaustion!
“Bed Hog Syndrome!” You are so right!

Yes, I’m thinking that just like there is a Groundhog’s Day, perhaps there should be a Bed Hog’s day where we all tell tales about the Bed Hogs that keep us from getting a good night’s sleep!

I have two big dogs that tend to take over the entire bed!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
The “best” story about bed-hogging dogs I read was about (I believe a mastiff – but it was some huge breed) that saved a young girl from would-be kidnappers in her home.
Needless to say, that dog could do NO wrong in her family’s eyes and got pretty much whatever he wanted!
Of course, what he wanted was the little girl’s bed!
(He obviously loved the little girl and was her protector – but in his bed-hogging ways – felt he deserved a good night’s sleep!)
You only need one guess to figure out who ended up sleeping where…
Oh such a cute kitten! Well, when isn’t a kitten cute? How could such a sweet little thing be called a Hog? I never! 😉

LOL. First I won’t share my bed. Then I call my sweet kitten names. What kind of mom am I turning into?

Hope you get some rest. I know what it is like. Two kids want to sleep in the same bed.
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Thanks and you two! Kids take up even more room than bed-hogging cats!
My kitties are bed hogs too!
We just had to start kicking my dog out of the room because he’s so old he’s started snoring!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Wow – it’s bad enough when the humans snore – but the dog?
Good luck with that! 🙂
Those cats.. they look so sweet and innocent. Well it is all fun and games until the person gets kicked out of bed! Cute picture! 🙂

Thanks Stacy – have a fabulous week!

Oh good I just read her dog snores… I’m not crazy. My dog snores too and snorts all the time. I have a Black Lab!!! Sorry sweetie totally not a cat person… my daughter loves them though. She had a cat named Meow Meow, but I’ll tell you she was the Cat from Hell!!!! Thanks for hosting once again! 🙂

Not a cat person? You need to meet my cats! 🙂
Love black labs (although I have yet to meet one that both snorts and snores!)
You have a great weekend too!

I had only one dog in my life that used to sleep with me…only when the Pres was at the firehouse on nights. When he came home, she was not allowed on or in the bed. As for cats, I have terrible allergies to them so none of my kitties ever got to sleep in my bed.
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
The truth is, I love my bed hogs and I love having them near – but, they totally keep me up!
Oh well, better to be awake with them then without them!
Well the bedhog IS pretty cute. 🙂 I’m headed over to the giveaway now, I love shoes. 🙂
Aww so cute! I have a couple of bed hogs myself
I found you on the Blog Paws Worldless Wednesday! Would love if you could stop by my blog too!

Awww…. I wish. Hubby is a bit allergic to cats so to keep his allergies at a minimum we keep the girls out of the bedroom. That being said, whenever I take a nap out on the couch (where I sleep on my side) I have one pussy cat snuggled up to my belly and one at in the knee nook. At least I never have to worry about being cold with those two around. 😉
Love that photo! I shared a photo of one of our cats, as well! 🙂 I read a quote this week that seems appropriate here– “A dog gets into your bed because he loves to snuggle with you. A cat gets into your bed because he loves your bed.” lol. Gotta love our kitties! 😉

Love that quote – I shared it last week on my Insomnia post! 🙂
Super love that face … so cute and adorable.
What a perfect analysis of Bed Hog Syndrome. Great job!

Hi Ramona. Stopping by From Katherine’s Corner Blog hop. I am sorry for your insomnia. I know how annoying it is since I have been having the worst insomnia myself for a couple months now. I think mine is for the opposite reason though. I haven’t slept as well since my cat Tasha suddenly died next to me in bed a couple months ago. She was not a bed hog like most cats 🙂 She laid next to me like a person would with head on a pillow and body stretched out long like we do. She never moved much in the night. So I think I am not used to sleeping alone and also the trauma of her dying suddenly next to me is what is contributing to mine. Hope your insomnia gets better 🙂 Your story here was cute and funny.

i don’t know that cats are having insomnia.. 😉
LOL!
