WOYWW – Creating From Scraps

Happy WOYWW dear friends! For the past few weeks, I’ve been alluding to the little bag of scraps on my desk that I’ve been playing with whenever I have a free moment. This week, I thought I’d tell you a little about the history of this particular bag, and show you some of the things I’ve created from its scraps.

A few years ago, I received a bunch of paper from a blogger who was cleaning out her stash. Included in the paper were a few sheets of punch out tags and papers, which I thought might come in handy when working on cards, ATCs and mini-books (nothing annoys me more than having to cut up a whole sheet of 12 x 12 paper when I just need a tiny scrap to work with!)

Over time, I began adding other small embellishments to the bag – mostly scraps from other projects or items I’ve received from former trading groups. Since the bag is small, I leave it on my desk to play with when I have a few free moments, making tags and embellishments for future use.

Now, here is the challenge of this bag: since most of the items in this bag are not items or colors I would normally choose to work with, my challenge is to experiment with what’s in the bag and to combine the scrap items with other items I own so that I create something I like!

In Photo 1 (above), you can see the bag of scraps in the upper left hand corner. I pulled out some of the bagged items so you can get a sense of how I’ve mixed some of the items.

Trip Of A Lifetime Collage Tag

Trip Of A Lifetime Tag

This week, for my Art Challenges, I wanted to feature my Trip Of A Lifetime Tag, which I like because I transformed the tag from a rather bland neutral backdrop into an interesting collage whose elements convey a sense of movement. If you look closely, you will see there is pattened Washi Tape that contains a road map. The patterned paper was chosen for its curved leave patterns which suggest a winding road. The two punched leaves further accentuate the movement (and, in a metaphorical sense, the journey – as in traveling through the seasons of life). The vellum and pattern papers add layering and depth without bulk – even the dewdrop hints at depth and transparency.

Cat Chat

Tsunami - Wk 1 Day 4

Now, it’s time for a little Cat Chat. This week at my not-so-Wordless Wednesday, the featured cat of the week is Tsunami and the story is entitled Sink Hole. If you’re wondering what on earth the story could be about, be sure to stop on by. I’ll whet your appetite a little: there’s three photos, not one, including two thens and a now!

Have a fabulous week and for those of you who are wondering what WOYWW is all about, the acronym officially stands for What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday. The meme was created by my friend Julia over at Stamping Ground. It’s a place where creative folk gather to share what’s on their workspaces each week as well as to chat about the creative process. If you’d like to join us, whether for peeking or for playing, be sure to visit Julia, the keeper of the links – it’s great fun!

  1. Fun post and a great Tag from your little Bag. Oh my floor is a complete mess, sorting thru scraps and organizing by color and I plan to use them up. Off to see your Cat Chat, Tsunami is so pretty. Enjoy and Happy WOYWW # 7

What an organised desk you have! My scrap-bag overflowed… I do try to use up bits and pieces (it’s one of my resolutions) and also to use pages and patterns I really don’t like oo much ( another resolution!). It’s working okay… but I know I’m getting to the point where I shall just put the whole lot into the recycle bin soo just to save space *lol*
    Have a wonderful WOYWW!
    Best wishes from Bubbles
