Muskie Attack by G. M. Moore

Muskie Attack

Book Review – Muskie Attack by G. M. Moore

When 10-year old Corbett Griffith III is sent to the North Woods of Wisconsin to spend the summer with Uncle Dell, nothing could excite him less. After all, Corbett is looking forward to spending his summer vacation playing video games – working on his computer – taking archaeology classes at Chicago’s Field museum – and perhaps, spending some quality time with parents.

But Corbett’s parents – who divorced a year ago – have other plans.

Corbett’s mother wants him to get acquainted with the great outdoors – or so she says. Quite frankly, Corbett thinks his parents are more interested in their careers than in his welfare!

So, as Corbett is “banished” to Whispering Pines Lodge – a fishing resort he soon discovers has no Internet, no television, no video games – no modern-day diversions of any kind to occupy his time – his expectations for a rewarding summer are quite low.

Little does Corbett know that he is about to experience the best summer of his life!

Muskie Attack by G. M. Moore tells the story of a young boy – Corbett (aka Griffy) – who learns to overcome his insecurities and fears as he opens himself up to the possibilities that the outside world holds. As he makes new friends, he begins to experience the sense of belonging that has eluded him for so long. And, as he develops new skills and faces new challenges, he sets out on a quest to earn his father’s attention – and respect – by setting a world record and catching a 70 pound muskie – a ferocious, pre-historic beast!

If you are looking for an adventure story that is suitable for Middle School readers (and beyond) – a story that encapsulates the themes of friendship, fishing, and the great outdoors – and a story that promotes family values – Muskie Attack is your book!

Reading your review gave me chills and had me thinking about how so many children are so disconnected because they are so “plugged in”. Almost every time my son (he’s 6) has a friend over, they inevitably come up to me and beg, “Can we play WII (Nintendo)?” I always respond, “NO WAY! You are supposed to play with each other, if you are playing WII, you’re not playing with each other.” I’m hoping they’ll soon know not to bother asking anymore! lol

Thanks so much for joining us in the Kid Lit Blog Hop. We are looking forward to having you co-host with us soon (just let me know what date, ok?) 🙂

      Hi Renee,

As I was reading this book, I remembered how we ALWAYS got kicked outdoors as kids to play and how our imaginations took over during our playtimes… how sad that for various reasons this is not the experience of most children these days!

I am VERY excited to share that thanks to the generosity of the author, I’ll soon be reviewing the remaining books in the Up North Adventure Series AND hosting a giveaway for the ENTIRE series – so be on the lookout!

And, I am VERY excited to be co-hosting an upcoming Kid Lit Blog Hop with you an introducing this FABULOUS event to my readers and will be in touch shortly to discuss the details with you as well!

We totally got kicked outside as well. Of course we lived on an acreage, so it was a lot of fun, I must admit! Living in an urban setting now with kids is such a different experience. It doesn’t even compare!

This sounds fantastic. What a change it is to compare my childhood to my daughter’s. My mother was always saying “go outside and play” and we wouldn’t see her the rest of the day except for meals. 🙂

Honestly, I don’t thing it is only the kids with this issue. I actually had a lovely experience this week where when hanging out with a fairly large group of homeschooling mothers at a park – I realized something was wrong. It took me a few minutes to realize what it was… not a single person had their phone out to text/check messages/etc. It was a really cool moment and one I don’t have the pleasure of experiencing often these days.

I love this and look forward to reading it and having my daughter read it!

Hopping along the Kid Lit Blog Hop,

So happy to have you co-hosting the Kid Lit Blog Hop with us! Can you believe I used to get grounded from reading because my mom wanted me to go outside and play with other kids? It’s true! Of course, she could afford that threat because I spent hours and hours reading every day. Now that I have a two-year-old, I don’t have all that time, but I do make time for a good book!
    Happy Hopping!

This sounds like an interesting book. It is amazing these days just how many kids spend a great deal of their free time ‘plugged in.’ I love these kinds of stories though that involve kids being exposed to things that they didn’t know about before. Thanks for sharing.

This sounds like such an interesting book, I am going to be sure to look for it. I was banished to my aunt’s farm in rural Michigan when I was 11 so I can really relate to Corbett in Wisconsin.
I found you through the Kid Lit Hop and I’m so glad I did. Thanks for sharing.
