Book Review – Muskie Attack by G. M. Moore
When 10-year old Corbett Griffith III is sent to the North Woods of Wisconsin to spend the summer with Uncle Dell, nothing could excite him less. After all, Corbett is looking forward to spending his summer vacation playing video games – working on his computer – taking archaeology classes at Chicago’s Field museum – and perhaps, spending some quality time with parents.
But Corbett’s parents – who divorced a year ago – have other plans.
Corbett’s mother wants him to get acquainted with the great outdoors – or so she says. Quite frankly, Corbett thinks his parents are more interested in their careers than in his welfare!
So, as Corbett is “banished” to Whispering Pines Lodge – a fishing resort he soon discovers has no Internet, no television, no video games – no modern-day diversions of any kind to occupy his time – his expectations for a rewarding summer are quite low.
Little does Corbett know that he is about to experience the best summer of his life!
Muskie Attack by G. M. Moore tells the story of a young boy – Corbett (aka Griffy) – who learns to overcome his insecurities and fears as he opens himself up to the possibilities that the outside world holds. As he makes new friends, he begins to experience the sense of belonging that has eluded him for so long. And, as he develops new skills and faces new challenges, he sets out on a quest to earn his father’s attention – and respect – by setting a world record and catching a 70 pound muskie – a ferocious, pre-historic beast!
If you are looking for an adventure story that is suitable for Middle School readers (and beyond) – a story that encapsulates the themes of friendship, fishing, and the great outdoors – and a story that promotes family values – Muskie Attack is your book!
