Pom-Poms! 25 Awesomely Fluffy Projects – Book Review
Today I’m delighted to share one of the most delightful books to cross my path this year. The book is called Pom-Poms! 25 Awesomely Fluffy Projects by Sara Goldschadt and Lexi Walters Wright, and it’s hot-off-the-presses from the purveyor of all things awesome – Quirk Books!
What comes to mind when you think of pom-poms? When I first heard the title, I thought of pillow ornaments, cat toys, cheerleader apparel, and Star Trek (who doesn’t love Tribbles?) Imagine my surprise when I learned that pom-poms are making a chic comeback on the Japanese and Scandinavian craft scene! They’re frivolous. They’re fun. They add a burst of color in every situation!
Here’s the authors’ take on pom-poms:
Let’s face it, pom-poms are inherently (but wonderfully) ridiculous. They serve no real purpose besides making the maker (and the wearer and admirer) grin at the handmade novelty – and yes, the absolute cuteness – of these puffy balls of fluff.
Pom-poms are timeless. They add a touch of whimsy to everything they meet. They’re whisper soft.
Are you ready to fall under the spell of the irresistible pom-pom? If so, Pom-Poms! contains everything you need to know to start beautifying yourself and your surrounding with gorgeous, colorful creations!
The first half of Pom-Poms! contains 25 pom-pom projects that are guaranteed to get your creative juices flowing.
- Start simple: Add a pretty pom-pom to a fancy straw.
- Go seasonal: Create lovely pom-pom ornaments for this year’s Christmas tree!
- Celebrate your child’s next birthday party with pom-pom cake toppers.
- Instead of topping your presents with bows, top them with colorful pom-poms!
- Create earrings, necklaces, and flower brooches made of pom-poms.
- Decorate your home with pom-pom paperweights, pom-pom wreaths, even a pom-pom piñata!
I love every project in this book – and, the projects only make up the first half of the book!
The second half of the book is called Pom-Pom 101. In this section, you’ll learn everything you need to create the amazing projects in the first half of the book!
According to the authors:
Producing pom-poms is oh so simple: you just have to find the technique that works best for you.
The authors will teach you:
- The best types of materials to use for different pom-pom projects
- 4 types of wrapping methods
- A variety of wrapping, trimming, and stacking styles
You’ll also find additional how-to’s and templates in the back of the book!
Everything about Pom-Poms! is top notch! The projects are diverse and colorful, beautifully photographed, and easy-to-make, thinks to the well-written instructions. The materials, techniques, and how-to’s are clearly outlined as well. The templates are a plus.
Pom-Poms! is a 5-star book that crafters of all ages will enjoy! I highly recommend this book.
