Welcome to the Best Of Books Blog Hop 2013 – hosted by Diane Estrella! During 2013, I reviewed 179 books at Create With Joy – and, over the next few days, I’ll be sharing the best books I read during the year in several categories, and looking forward to the books I’m most anticipating reading in 2014!

The schedule of events for this blog hop is as follows:

Best Teen And Young Adult Books of 2013

Today I’m sharing some of the best Teen and Young Adult Books I read in 2013.

  • How many of these books have you read – or are you planning to read?
  • What are the best Teen and Young Adult Books you’ve read this year?
  • What are your favorite Teen and Young Adult Books of all time?

My Best Teen and Young Adult Books of 2013 are:

Anomaly by Krista McGee

Anomaly by Krista McGee

Imagine living in a post-apocalyptic world where life as you know it no longer exists. Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war now run the world. They create life. They make the rules. Everything they do is for our good – or, so, we’ve been taught.

Anomaly by Krista McGee is the engaging first novel in a dystopian Young Adult trilogy about a 17-year old girl named Thalli who begins to suspect that she is an anomaly when she begins to question the things that she and her pod-mates have been taught. Asking questions and being an anomaly is not good for her long-term survival…

Anomaly is a complex story full of engaging characters that is written for Young Adults but kept my husband and I fully intruiged as well. Unlike most books in its genre, the author even weaves a message of Christian hope in its storyline!

OCD, The Dude And Me by Lauren Roedy Vaughn

OCD The Dude And Me

OCD, The Dude And Me by Lauren Roedy Vaughn is the highly original story of a young girl who is struggling to grow up while coping with OCD and other challenges. The story chronicles Danielle’s senior year of high school year and is told through Danielle’s writing, which include class essays, personal entries in her journals and me-moir, e-mails and postcards, personal rants and mental health missives. As you read the entries, you’ll simultaneously laugh, cry, shake your head in frustration, and marvel at the raw emotions and profound insights Danielle shares. You’ll love Danielle’s unique way of looking at things. Once in awhile, you may even see yourself on the pages!

Keeper Of The Black Stones by PT McHugh

Keeper of the Black Stones

This year, I had the opportunity to read two Young Adult novels that dealt with time travel. The first – a highly hyped novel that I spent the year looking forward to – disappointed. On the other hand, Keeper Of The Black Stones – Stone Ends, Book 1 by PT McHugh is a riveting Young Adult novel that delivers everything you want in a time travel novel – and then some!

In Keeper Of The Black Stones, high school student Jason Evans has his worst suspicions confirmed – that his grandfather, a brilliant, retired physics professor – is losing his mind – when he accidentally finds his grandfather’s journal and discovers entries documenting time travel, conspiracy theories, dual identities, and secret lives!

But – when someone vandalizes their home in search of the journal – and, when the people his grandfather wrote about start showing up in their home – Jason is forced to confront an even scarier possibility. Suppose what his grandfather wrote about is true?

PT McHugh is a masterful storyteller who will delight both urban fantasy and historical fiction lovers with this first book in the series – and will leave you pining for more!

Thanks for writing such a wonderful book (it’s next up in my husband’s “to read” pile as he enjoyed the snippets I read to him while I was reading and reviewing your book!)
