$10 Great Dates – Book Review
If you are married, when is the last time you and your spouse went on a date? And – this is key – when is the last time you spent $10 or less on a date?
If you are anything like my husband and I, you are probably way overdue for some good, quality time with one another – particularly fun things that don’t empty your bank account!
That’s why $10 Great Dates – Connecting Love, Marriage and Fun On a Budget by Peter and Heather Larson and David and Claudia Arp is the perfect gift for yourself, newlyweds, and all of your married friends!
$10 Great Dates delivers just what the title promises – 52 creative dates that you and your spouse can enjoy for less than the cost of a movie or a tank of gas!
Think of this book as a year’s worth of adventures that take you and your loved one back to the days when you first met – when spending time with one another was more important than spending money – when looking forward to a day or evening out with someone you loved was the highlight of your week!
For $10 or less – no matter how tight your budget is – Larson and Arp make getting out of the house and painting the town with one another possible!
$10 Great Dates is broken into eight categories that describe the types of adventures you’ll find inside:
- Adventure Great Dates
- Out-On-The-Town Great Dates
- At-Home Great Dates
- The Great Outdoors Great Dates
- Marriage Pick-Me-Up Great Dates
- Romantic Great Dates
- Seasonal Specials Great Dates
- Unique And Unusual Great Dates
Each date is structured to present:
- The Idea
- Before Your Date
- On Your Date
- Talking Points
- Great Date Takeaway
There is no right or wrong way to use $10 Great Dates. You can read it from cover to cover or randomly pick and choose your dates. I think it would be fun for couples to take turns surprising one another with a weekly date that they plan using the ideas found in this book!
Regularly spending time connecting with your spouse helps to ensure that over the years, you continue to grow together, not apart!
For just a few dollars and a few hours each week, $10 Great Dates might prove to be one of the best marital investments that you and your spouse ever make!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I think my parents are always at a loss of what to do together anymore since they have been together over 40 years. This book looks like a great gift idea…. though I wouldn’t mind picking up one for me too. 🙂
Hope you have an opportunity to treat both yourself and your parents to a copy of this book Catherine – it’s definitely a great way to get out of a dating rut! 🙂
I love reading creative ideas for dates! Since we’re both so busy, my fiance and I usually use “date night” as time to go to the gym or for a run together. Free, yes, but romantic, not always! We need to stop being so practical all the time!
Hi Michelle,
Sounds like you and your fiance can definitely use some creative ideas to spice up your life!
Hope you have a chance to pick up this book and find some new ways to enjoy spending time together that are still financially practical, yet creative and fun! 🙂
Fun! The boyfriend and I love going out and having a great time but we don’t really like to spend a lot of money doing it. These are great! I’m stopping by from SITS & I hope your having a great day.
So nice to see you again Leslie – this book will help you and your boyfriend extend your budget while still enjoying each other’s company!
Have a wonderful week and hope you have fun reading the book and planning some fun adventures together!
What a great idea – especially timely in this economy!
I know – a $10 date makes weekly adventures accessible to everyone – exciting! 🙂
Sounds like a fun book. Date nights usually sneak up on us and then we spend the inevitable time trying to figure out what to do before we settle on our usual (dinner, dessert and Target without the kids).
That sounds like us Tanya – in spite of any great ideas we have during the week – by the time we actually get out of the house to do anything – we always find ourselves in the same rut!
I always enjoy reading books like this for that very reason – now I just have to get DH on board…
I saw this book the other day and am really considering getting it! I’m always open to fun dates! Thanks for sharing at Booknificent Thursday!
This is a really fun book Laura – thanks for stopping by!
