The Art Of Work by Jeff Goins – Book Review
Every now and then you come across a book which – to your delight – is nothing like you expect it to be.
When I picked up The Art Of Work – A Proven Path To Discovering What You Were Meant To Do by Jeff Goins, I thought I was in for another book filled with tried and true career advice and exercises designed to help you find the perfect job for you – but thankfully, this wasn’t the case!
Instead, The Art Of Work focuses on sharing the inspiring, real life stories of people who find their calling – their vocation – the thing that they can’t not do – after life takes them down paths that they did not expect.
During the course of his research, Jeff heard hundreds of stories from people who found their calling in life, and through these stories, he identified seven common characteristics which he uses as the thematic chapters for the book:
- Awareness
- Apprenticeship
- Practice
- Discovery
- Profession
- Mastery
- Legacy
Jeff says that as you read through these chapters, think of these characteristics as steps and overlapping stages that you can experience and build upon for the rest of your life!
I found The Art Of Work a bit of a misnomer – based on the inspiration I found inside, I thought the book could be more aptly entitled A Handbook For Life!
No matter who you are or what you do – The Art Of Work should be on your list of books to read!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
