Dancing Through Life – Book Review
If you’ve ever watched Dancing With The Stars – a show where celebrities are paired with non-professional dancers on live TV and judged each week on their performance ability and popularity alike – you know what a pressure cooker of an environment that show can be.
Now imagine going on the show and trying do everything that the show requires of you to the best of your ability, while upholding your Christian values and being a witness for God in an environment that is not known for embracing people of faith.
Sound like an impossible task?
For most of us, it would be – but with God, all things are possible, as Candace Cameron Bure discovered during her time as a contestant on Season 18 of Dancing With The Stars!
Now, Candace takes us on a behind-the-scenes tour of DWTS as she shares the details on the obstacles she faced as she rose from an inexperienced underdog on the show – as well as the challenges she had to overcome on her journey to a successful semi-finalist – in her new book Dancing Through Life – Steps Of Courage And Conviction !
It’s a compelling story with exclusive photographs that you won’t want to miss!
On DWTS, Candace – who many of us know from her role as D.J. Tanner on Full House – was partnered with Mark Ballas, a partnership she was thrilled about. From the start, she shared her convictions and boundaries with him about what she would and would not do on the show. She was committed to giving 100% – but in a way that honored Christ, her husband. her family, and her Christian values.
In Dancing Through Life, Candace writes:
I knew up front that I didn’t want to just vault across the DWTS stage without a plan. I wanted to show what it looked like to live within the boundaries that God gives us for our good.
In each chapter of Dancing Through Life, Candace shares how each week of the show stretched her personally, professionally, and spiritually, and challenged her to embrace and live out her faith before millions.
Candace says:
My time on DWTS is only a small part of my story. Over and over I learned that this was not a journey about dancing or about being on a television show. This was about learning to live with conviction in all areas of my life.
Dancing Through Life is an inspiring book that will not only delight fans of Candace and DWTS, but will challenge you to examine, embrace, and fully live out your own personal convictions.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I didn’t get to see Cameron Burke dance on the television show. I love her for her faith and wonderful family values. I would love to read this book.

I love dance in general. Probably because I have two left feet. I have not watched the TV show. This promises to be a wonderful read.

I’m not a huge ballroom dancing fan so I didn’t see the show. I am a big fan of her husband Pavel. I’d really like to read the book particularly the parts about their life together. Thanks.

Hi Carl,
I have not seen this season yet (have it recorded) but have watched most of the previous seasons and even if you’re not a fan of ballroom dancing, you may want to check it out – they have really expanded into various realms of dance and the way they present the show, a lot of it is about the story of the individuals (who are from a broad range of athletes, entertainers, and other personalities).
The show has changed a lot over the years – I prefer it in some of its previous iterations – but they usually have one or two individuals like Cameron that really “make” the season (again, have not seen this season so can’t speak for it) but it might surprise you!
Thanks for supporting the giveaway! 🙂
Yes, my husband and I watch Dancing With the Stars, and we watched Cameron and thought she danced great! I think dancing through life is joyful, and dancing is good exercise.

Hi Janet,
I watched Cameron too and what I really loved about her on the show is that she was someone you could really relate too! She wasn’t “perfect” – you could see her struggle at times – but she also danced beautifully throughout and she always handled herself with dignity, grace and poise!
I love dancing too and love your thought that “dancing through life is joyful”! 🙂
I did follow Candice’s journey on DWTS and I was so proud or her success and her determination to stay true to her Christian beliefs. She showed young women that you can be beautiful and you can have fun and still maintain your modesty and retain your dignity. I enjoy DWTS because I love to watch the different dances.
Thank you for thus review and giveaway!

Love your comment Connie about Candace showing young women that you can be beautiful, have fun, and still maintain your modesty and retain your dignity – women of all ages definitely need more role models like her on prime time tv!
I did not watch the show either. I am not a big TV watcher, but I do enjoy her blog and she seems to have a wonderful Christian testimony.

I watch DWTS and watched the season she was on. She took a stand many times and for many different reasons throughout the season.
Love Candace both on and off Dancing with the stars. She did a great job on Dancing and showed great perseverance. Way to go Candace. May your career be long and varied enough to keep you always interested in life.

Unfortunately, I did not watch her on DWTS. I love how she relates the book not only to the show, but how she relates her journey in life. Living life for the LORD in the public’s eye is the true meaning of Walking the Talk!!
This sounds like a great read!
