How To Survive A Shipwreck

How To Survive A Shipwreck – Help Is On The Way And Love Is Already Here – Book Review

Sometimes you don’t have to know every gory detail of a man’s life to know that something drastic and life-altering has occurred and that – if you listen carefully – you might just learn something that might save you from drowning should the ship that you’re sailing on ever sink to the bottom of the sea.

Jonathan Martin has been on that sinking ship and – in his book How To Survive A Shipwreck – Help Is On The Way And Love Is Already Here, eloquently and transparently helps us to navigate the murky waters of life when “the shipwreck is upon you and there is no going back to the life you had.”

What I like most about How To Survive A Shipwreck is that the book is a deeply personal memoir with many profound insights that readers can relate to. The book does not provide easy answers or solutions to our darkest moments or our deepest pain, but it does point to us to the One who is there to uphold and uplift and sustain us during every moment of our lives – the God who invites us into an ever-deepening relationship with Him as we survey the wreck and begin to build anew.

How To Survive A Shipwreck will resonate with anyone who has ever been underwater before and will serve as a life preserver for those who are at risk for drowning.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

About Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin – a self-described “sacramental hillbilly Pentacosal mystic” – serves as the teaching pastor at Sanctuary Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is the founder of Renovatus Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, which he led for 8 years. He is the product of the “Christ-haunted landscape” of the American south, sweaty revivals, and hip-hop. Before he began a life of church planting, writing, and preaching, he made sure his Aquaman, Robin and Wonder Woman action figures got saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age.

We just read Call It Courage and Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. Ships are very much on our radar, and this sounds like a good read. Thanks for sharing at the #LMMLinkup!
