Gluten-Free For Good: Simple Wholesome Recipes Made From Scratch – Book Review
Food editor Samantha Seneviratne likes to feed people – and it shows. In her latest cookbook, Gluten-Free For Good: Simple Wholesome Recipes Made From Scratch. Samantha shares 100 easy-to-make, healthy gluten-free recipes that she says are so delicious, you’ll never miss the gluten!
I’ve been pouring over the mouth-watering recipes and delectable photos in Gluten-Free For Good since it arrived. This cookbook truly exemplifies the author’s motto:
No meal should be defined by what’s not there.
There are several things that I like about Samantha’s approach to gluten-free cooking. First, Samantha emphasizes that you should prepare your foods from scratch rather than relying on pre-packaged foods that may be gluten-free but still contain chemical preservatives, unnecessary gums, and extra sodium, sugar, and fat. She acknowledges that this can be a little intimidating for those who are starting out on their gluten-free journey – so she makes the experience as easy and exciting as possible for you in this book.
She encourages you to begin by ridding your pantry of highly processed, highly priced fake foods and provides you with the real food ingredients you need to fill your home with so that you can make healthy, wholesome meals of your own. She describes the properties of the alternative flours and starches you’ll be using in your recipes so you’ll understand which ingredients to use for your specific needs.
Best of all, she provides recipes that everyone will enjoy – not just those who are on a gluten-free diet!
Here are a few of the recipes that are high on my list to sample from Gluten-Free For Good:
- Sweet Pea and Ricotta Ravioli
- Sauteed Lemony Gnocchi
- Lemongrass Pork Meatballs
- Sweet Potato and Spinach Hash
- Raspberry Cream Tart With Pistachios
If you are looking for a gluten-free cookbook with recipes that are as appealing as they are healthy, I recommend Gluten-Free For Good to you!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
NOTE: If you are trying to decrease the amount of sugar in your diet and do not require a gluten-free diet, be sure to check out Samantha’s previous cookbook, The New Sugar And Spice!

My body can really feel the difference when I am gluten-free so I was really happy to find this book!
I encourage you to give it a try.
One of the things that the author mentions in the book that is important to remember is that there are a lot of foods that are already in our diet that we eat on a regular basis that are naturally gluten free – so that is a good place to start! 🙂

I think I’d like to try some gluten free, especially for my younger son. He seems to be very troubled by allergies and congestion.

If your son is having allergy and congestion issues I highly encourage you to try a gluten-free diet for him.
While it takes a little effort to make the transition, the health benefits are well worth it! 🙂
This looks like a terrific book! I have tried to eat gluten free for about 10 years, and have just recently received a confirmed celiac diagnosis. So now I HAVE to eat gluten free. I am used to it, but find myself relying too much on pre-packaged foods from the gluten free aisle. So this book sounds great.

Oooooo. This sounds amazing. I don’t have to be gluten free, but I love trying new things. But I also have a cousin who has to be gluten free and figuring out how to cook for her is definitely a trick.
