Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity In The Midst Of Life’s Storms – Review

When the storms of life threaten to overtake you – when the world is trying to erode your sense of self-worth and value by constantly streaming negativity your way – how do you find the courage and the strength to stay true to who you are, to stay grounded in the truths that God has revealed to you in your life through His Word?

You’ll find these answers inside of Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity In The Midst Of Life’s Storms – the powerful memoir by Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow!

In Shaken, Tim takes us beyond the more public aspects of his life – he’s spent much of his adult career in the public eye because of his football career – and shares some of his more private moments. Specifically, he shares throughout the book how his faith in Jesus has sustained him through the most disappointing and difficult times of his life.

The title of the book is derived from Psalm 16:8, a defining verse in Tim’s life:

I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

While Shaken is a natural gift to give to football fans and the men in your life, you don’t have to be a sports fan to find Tim’s book inspiring. Anyone who is going through hard times and could use a bit of encouragement in their lives will find Tim’s book highly inspiring.

In our culture, we are taught to identify ourselves by shifting, superficial things, and when those things are yanked out from underneath of us, our worlds and identities are shattered. Shaken is an important book because it points us to the reality and truth that our identities are not defined by what we do or how much we make, but whether or not we have rooted our identities in the Lord.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

About Tim Tebow

tim-tebow

Tim Tebow is a two-time national champion, first round NFL draft pick, and Heisman trophy winner.

While leaving college, he founded the Tim Tebow Foundation, which exists to bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need. Each day, the foundation fulfills this mission by making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses, taking care of thousands of orphans worldwide, providing life-changing surgeries for children in the Philippines, and fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves.

After playing in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets, Tim joined the ESPN/SEC Network – in one of his current roles – as a football analyst. When he’s not talking sports, you can find Tim contributing to a variety of ESPN platforms and co-hosting FOX’s reality television show Home Free.

    This book sounds like a real winner. I would love to know more about how God has helped him handle his disappointments with his football career and keep going. Thanks for sharing at the #LMMLinkup.

  3. I just recently read about the work his foundation does, so I will look forward to reading this book to get the background. I know a little about his football career, but it will be nice to read about another side of his life.
