No More Faking Fine by Esther Fleece – Book Review

According to trauma survivor Esther Fleece, lament is a word that we rarely hear in church these days, but in her transformational book No More Faking Fine, she shares how learning to lament is the key to healing from our deepest wounds.

Lament is expressing honest emotions to God when life is not going as planned. Whether we’re hurt, frustrated, confused, betrayed, overwhelmed, sad or disappointed, lament is the language that God has given us to talk to Him right in the middle of life’s messes… it is a prayer to which God always responds.

Most of us learn at an early age how to cover up our deepest pain and to “fake fine” to get through life – but Esther shows us how to open our hearts before God and gives us a new way to pray. She shows us how “intimacy is a prayer woven throughout Scripture” that provides an “unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God”.

Reading a book on lamenting might not sound like fun – but if you are already in a place of pain, I can think of no better endeavor than learning to lament in a godly manner that will lead to hope, healing and AMEN.
